A Day in the LifeAs a Senior EHS Specialist, you will play a vital role in deploying and embedding Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) policies and procedures in line with German regulations and Medtronic’s global standards. You will perform workplace and specific risk assessments — covering areas such as ionising radiation, ergonomics, manual handling, driver safety, fire protection, PPE, biological agents, and chemical safety—for both onsite and field-based operations.Based out of Meerbusch-Osterath, Germany, scope for the EHS position will be Commercial as well as field, sales and service employees working frequently at hospital settings in Germany. Additional responsibilities of the EHS position also include overseeing our R&D site in Munich.
Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned:
- Provide leadership and direction for the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of key EHS risk programs such as driver safety, ionizing radiation, biohazards, emergency preparedness and ergonomics. Ensure these programs comply with regulatory requirements, align with Medtronic EHS Standards and support EMEA and Corporate strategies and initiatives
- Submit to management periodic EHS performance report and EHS improvements plans.
- Lead workplace risk assessments including Chemical, Biological agents, Fire, Radiation, PPE, Manual Handling, Ergonomics, Displace Screen equipment etc.
- Coordinate EHS training process for existing and new employees in accordance with agreed training schedule.
- Facilitate EHS engagement communication via regular EHS committee meetings, active involvement programs, information boards, newsletters and other communication forums.
- Report EHS incidents & EHS metrics and as required by the national legal requirements and corporate EHS standards.
- Facilitate incidents investigation and root causes analysis together with management team.
- Cooperate with all relevant external agencies including Fire Services, Health and Safety authorities and Environmental agency.
- Partner with Medtronic sub-regions, business units, and functions at all levels of the organization to provide EHS technical expertise and promote a positive EHS culture
- Support environmental sustainability activities aligned with country and corporate requirements
Required Knowledge and Experience:
- Bachelor’s Degree in a technical field, including: chemistry, biology, engineering, environmental, industrial hygiene and/or safety or similar
- Qualification as an occupational safety specialist and several years of work experience in the field of EHS
- Good skills in planning & coordinating, communicating & influencing, achieving milestones, resolving issues
- Able to work in a cross functional and multinational environment; culturally aware
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and ability to work independently
- Expert written and spoken German language
- Fluent written and spoken English language
Ideally you hold a Master Degree, have good presentation skills, as well as strong judgement and business acumen.
