Job purpose
The BorgWarner Arden campus offers two world class technical centers and a cutting-edge manufacturing facility that designs and produces turbos, fan, and fan drive components for the automotive industry. The Arden campus offers a multitude of career opportunities and is in the beautiful mountains of Western North Carolina.
The EHS Specialist will be responsible for developing and implementing programs and processes related to environmental, health, and safety policies, training, and organizational development. This role will support both technical centers, and manufacturing facilities.
Key responsibilities
- Develop and promote environmental, health, and safety programs and policies to promote a safe work environment and reduce occupational incidents.
- Promote health and safety awareness through effective employee communications and participation.
- Conduct safety inspections, ergonomic risk assessments, job hazard analysis, and ensure compliance with ISO 14001, 45001, and 50001 standards as well as all OSHA and EPA requirements.
- Coordinate incident investigations, including root cause analysis and corrective actions.
- Develop and conduct training programs on industrial safety, industrial hygiene, emergency planning, government regulations, and hazardous materials.
- Develop and integrate waste management, minimization, and recycling programs.
- Provide emergency response oversight and ensure proper storage and maintenance of chemicals.
- Promotes a high degree of employee involvement on safety teams, inspection teams, and other aspects of the program.
- Develops and conducts training programs on industrial safety, industrial hygiene, emergency planning, government regulations, hazardous materials, and other related issues.
- Coordinates and investigates incident investigation.
- Supports and participates in Facilities/Maintenance department team activities.
- Understands and adheres to current quality and control policies.
- Perform other duties as needed.
What we’re looking for
- Bachelor’s Degree in Biological, Environmental, or Health and Safety Sciences, or 3-5 years of relevant work experience in manufacturing.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook).
- Sound judgment, ethical values, communication, decision-making, and analytical problem-solving skills.
- Understanding of applicable Federal and State (OSHA/EPA) regulations.
- OSHA 501, HAZWOPER, Medical Responder, Powered Industrial Truck, or other Safety Training certifications preferred.
- ASP or CSP certification preferred. ISO 14001, 45001, and 50001 experience also preferred.
- Proactive work experience with employee relations, policy development, compensation administration, training and organizational development, and adherence to federal and state laws is required.
- The ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise discretion when managing sensitive employee information.
- The ability to work in a fast-paced environment with demonstrated ability to manage multiple competing tasks and demands.
- Must be able to work in a team environment.
- Must be able to follow instructions, safety rules and regulations.

Safety
This position will adhere to the BorgWarner Environmental Health and Safety Program by following all safety rules, procedures, practices, training, and safe use of equipment; this includes use of personal protective equipment (PPE) as required. This individual will work in a way that stresses the importance of preventing injury, accidents, or illnesses to themselves or co-workers by correcting or reporting unsafe situations, incidents, or occurrences to their Team Lead immediately.
