The Opportunity:

CACI is seeking a Senior Paralegal to support the Educational Opportunities Section (EOS) of the Civil Rights Division at the Department of Justice (DOJ). Nearly 70 years ago, in Brown v. Board of Education, the Supreme Court held that the intentional segregation of students on the basis of race in public schools violates the Fourteenth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution. Subsequent federal legislation and court decisions further mandate that school officials not discriminate against students on the basis of race, color, sex, national origin, language barriers, religion, or disability. The Educational Opportunities Section enforces these statutes and court decisions across a diverse range of cases involving elementary and secondary schools, as well as institutions of higher education.

This is not a remote position; on-site presence in Washington, DC is required five days per week. Travel within the continental United States may be required to support case activities
Responsibilities:

Works under the direction of a Supervisory Paralegal or Project Supervisor. Work products are reviewed prior to submission; however, the incumbent will often develop these products with minimal direct supervision beyond written guidelines. In addition to functions performed by Paralegals, the Senior Paralegal:

  • Performs moderately complex legal research

  • Synopsizes transcripts of hearings and oral arguments for attorney use

  • Reviews case-related materials and identifies potentially conflicting statements or areas requiring further investigation

  • Drafts preliminary versions of simple legal memoranda and correspondence

  • Maintains contact primarily with other contractor staff, with occasional interaction with trial attorneys and DOJ personnel

Qualifications:
Required:

  • Paralegal certificate

Desired:

  • Experience with Relativity

  • Experience tracking incoming and outgoing productions

  • Experience downloading and reviewing document collections
