The Week is looking for a writer with news experience for our national news and opinion magazine. The ideal candidate will be able to write quickly and engagingly, with substantial previous experience covering news. The Senior Editor will distill a broad range of news and opinion into thoughtful, succinct, and lively summaries in The Week's distinctive style.
What You'll DoYou will report to the Executive Editor, The Week US
- Assess the important news of the week in politics and culture to find the most important and engaging stories.
- Sifting, blending, and contrasting the opinions of columnists from the left, right, and center to help readers make sense of the news.
- Write several articles for every issue in a format that values compression, clarity, wit, and brevity.
- Explain the news in a way that gives busy readers “all they need to know about everything that matters" with an emphasis on accuracy and non-partisanship.
- Participate in the entire news team's planning of how to cover the news.
- Track record in news journalism to the highest standard
- Experience working at pace with appropriate sector knowledge
- The ability to work under tight deadlines
The expected range for this role is $62,000 - $75,000
