Ingram Content Group (ICG) is hiring a Senior EDI Engineer. The Senior EDI Engineer will design, operate, and continuously improve our enterprise integration platform. You will engineer end-to-end business processes, diagnose and resolve complex, cross-system failures, and act as the technical owner of IBM Sterling Integrator and related platforms in a high-volume, mission-critical environment.

You will work deeply across business process modeling, protocol handling, transformation logic, error recovery, and system performance, partnering with infrastructure, application, and business teams to ensure resilient, secure, and scalable integrations with external trading partners.

This position will require 4 days in the office and 1 day may be remote per week, candidates must be in or willing to relocate to the Nashville, TN area

Want to help explore and build new ways to deliver content to the world?

At Ingram, our Technology team is blazing a trail by providing content distribution services to thousands of publishers with key initiatives around business intelligence, machine learning, continuous integration and omnichannel.  We support diverse people and technology that highlights innovation through SaaS platforms, metadata, cloud, and containerization.   Our teams are agile, and emphasize authenticity, creativity, and transparency upon a fact-based foundation.

The world is reading, and it is our goal to connect as many people as possible to the content they want in the simplest ways.  If you are an IT professional who strives to deliver results through collaborative partnerships, understanding what drives business, and enjoys working in a connected culture, we can’t wait to meet you!

The ideal candidate will have the following minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or equivalent hands-on experience.
  • 7+ years of deep, hands-on experience with EDI and B2B integration engineering.
  • Extensive experience with IBM Sterling B2B Integrator (v6.x+) in enterprise, high-volume environments.
  • Strong experience designing business processes, not just maps, within Sterling SI.
  • Proven expertise with Sterling adapters (AS2, FTP/S, SFTP, HTTP/S, MQ, JDBC/ODBC).

We have a preference for:

  • API & Integration Experience:
Hands-on experience designing, consuming, and supporting RESTful APIs and API-based B2B integrations, including JSON, authentication mechanisms, and error handling patterns. Familiarity with API-first integration approaches and hybrid EDI/API architectures.
  • Programming Languages:
Strong development experience with Java (Sterling extensions, services, custom logic) and/or Python for integration tooling, automation, data transformation, monitoring, or operational support.
  • Scripting & Automation:
Experience using scripting languages (UNIX shell, PowerShell, Python) to automate operational tasks, monitoring, alerting, and partner onboarding workflows.
  • Containerization & Modern Platforms:
Exposure to containerized environments (Docker, Kubernetes or similar), including deploying, supporting, or integrating container-based services within enterprise integration ecosystems. Understanding of how containerization impacts scalability, resiliency, and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Cloud & Modern Architecture (Plus):
Familiarity with cloud platforms (Azure, or GCP), cloud-native integration patterns, and hybrid on-prem/cloud B2B architectures.

The Senior EDI Engineer’s key responsibilities are:

Business Process Engineering & Integration Design

  • Design, build, and maintain complex Sterling business using BPML to orchestrate multi-step B2B workflows.
  • Build robust process logic including retries, exception handling, acknowledgements (997/999), routing, transformations, and conditional flows.
  • Translate business and operational requirements into scalable, fault-tolerant technical solutions across multiple backend systems.

Advanced Problem Solving & Production Support

  • Act as senior escalation point for complex, multi-system production issues including EDI maps, business processes, network connectivity, security, and backend applications.
  • Perform deep root-cause analysis using logs, metrics, and custom diagnostics.
  • Design permanent fixes rather than short-term workarounds, improving platform stability and observability.

EDI Mapping & Transformation (Advanced)

  • Design, develop, and optimize complex EDI and non-EDI transformations.
  • Refactor and modernize legacy maps, enforce mapping standards, and build reusable components.
  • Support and migrate existing transactions from legacy EDI platforms to modern B2B architectures.

Trading Partner Lifecycle Ownership

  • Lead full lifecycle management of trading partners, including technical onboarding, connectivity, certificates, testing, certification, and production cutover.
  • Maintain partner configurations, schedules, SLAs, and security artifacts.
  • Drive partner migrations, and consolidation initiatives.

Platform Monitoring, Performance & Reliability

  • Proactively monitor transaction flows, system health, and KPIs.
  • Tune business processes, adapters, and system configurations to support high-volume, low-latency transaction processing.
  • Improve alerting, monitoring, and operational automation to reduce incidents and mean time to resolution (MTTR).

Collaboration, Mentorship & Ownership

  • Serve as the primary technical interface for external trading partners, VANs, and internal application teams.
  • Mentor other team members and provide technical guidance and code/process reviews.
  • Participate in a 24×7 on-call rotation, providing expert-level support and operational leadership.

Continuous Improvement & Architecture Evolution

  • Identify opportunities for automation, standardization, and simplification across B2B workflows.
  • Contribute to the B2B integration roadmap, including API-first integrations, PEM adoption, and modernization of legacy EDI patterns.
  • Evaluate new integration approaches and tools to improve scalability, resilience, and partner experience.
