Senior Distinguished Engineer- International Card Tech
As a Capital One Senior Distinguished Engineer, you'll bring your unique and extensive experience, perspective and strong communication skills to work hand in hand with tech and business SLT to shape the future technical direction of Canada Tech and beyond. You'll help technically steer everything from customer-facing web and mobile applications, to highly-available RESTful and streaming microservices, to AWS infrastructure and automation that removes sludge from the system. As a key Subject Matter Expert, you'll inspire teams across Canada Tech and Capital One, be regularly sought after as an expert in your area, advocate for engineering excellence, and elevate the "glue" work across the organization.
About the Team.
Join Capital One in Canada as we build the products that enable our millions of international Card customers. This team will specifically be working on the development of customer management capabilities for international Card users, including transitioning from an account-centric to a customer-centric decision-making model.
About the Role.
In this role, you will:

• Influence and have broad impact on Canada Tech and Capital One as a whole. Inspire the principles and standards for Canada Tech and beyond.
• Identify and drive transformation changes in both culture and delivery.
• Mentor, coach and sponsor the next generation of Distinguished Engineers.
• Continuously improve and level up software engineering practices in Canada Tech and Capital One.
• Bring together technical leaders to identify commonality and work together to reduce arbitrary uniqueness through standardization, new and existing InnerSource projects, and general reuse.
• Look for solutions to optimize globally vs locally.
• Be a beacon for initiating, driving and leading transformational change.
• Apply judgment to "tie break" and help platform teams make key technical decisions. Take a long term perspective to ensure platforms remain future friendly and minimize rework.
• Inspire diversity of thought and build psychological safety.
• Work with Directors and SLT members to understand the strategic business desires, forge partnerships and guide decisions by bringing a technical perspective.
• Embrace compromise to get the best results for the organization.
• Bring a passion to stay on top of internal and external trends, participate in internal and external technology communities, and drive internal adoption of external best practices.
• Contribute to building Capital One's external technology brand and be recognized as an evangelist.

Basic Qualifications:

• Bachelor's Degree
• At least 9 years of experience in General software Software engineering and solution architecture
• At least 9 years of experience in Enterprise architecture and design patterns

Preferred Qualifications:

• Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Computer Science or a related field
• 10+ years of experience in coding with commonly used languages like Java, Python, Go, JavaScript/TypeScript, Swift
• 10+ years of experience in full lifecycle of system development, from conception through architecture, implementation, testing, deployment and production support
• 5+ years of experience with public or private cloud technologies
