This job is primarily responsible for the overall positions, quality, logistics and profitability of the Premiums Grains (e.g. specialty grains, such as IP or high quality grains for specific purposes and end users) area. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, working with their team to create safe, efficient and profitable operations, as well as profitable trading through risk management, working as a liaison with multiple departments, interpreting and educating others on risks, providing direction and making daily decisions as it pertains to premium grains is imperative to succeed. Incumbent would be responsible for managing over 10 million bushels including River facilities and Inland end users.
In this job, you will:
- Oversee Grain quality; develop and ensure consistent execution of operational policies and practices, particularly as it pertains to quality product to the end user.
- Oversee, plan and execute logistics as it pertains to premium grains; inclusive of trucks, rail, and barge.
- Ensure that the business is profitable, develop bench marks, report out results and develop improvement plans for areas falling below benchmark.
- Lead by example to reinforce exceptional customer service in all areas.
- Lead, coach and guide assigned team on safety, customer service and operating costs.
- Work with various departments on communicating a plan of action regarding logistics and staffing capabilities.
- Manage expenses in line with forecast; monitor quality, storage, logistics, repairs, maintenance, equipment and labor expenses.
- Leverage available resources to create revenue through grain positions.
- Maintain and develop sales opportunities while adhering to credit, quality and cash risk limits.
- Prepare and/or review contract offers, price/delivery negotiations, logistical documents, contracts, applications, pricing, hedging transactions and final settlements, adhering to trading and risk position limits.
- Develop and manage a daily communication system to effectively post basis values.
- Communicate market trends and information.
- Manage/communicate and service the specialty grains program working with both MD and regional participants, ensuring customer service, profitability and quality as priority while creating a profit.
- Coordinate and set expectations for the assigned commodity process in the assigned.
- Oversee staffing and job development activities, develop, communicate, and manage individual staff performance expectations that align with company goals.
- Assist in capital allocation and project development.
- Other duties as assigned.
Here’s what you’ll need to be considered:
Education
Required - Bachelor's degree.
Experience
Required – 3 years’ minimum
Preferred - Working experience within our organization.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Working knowledge of facility cost structure, mix and blend, safety, efficiency, grain quality, preventive maintenance, carry, interest, freight, FOB and CIF marketing/sales
- Working knowledge of positions, end user needs, logistics, working as a liaison with multiple departments, understanding and explaining risks
- Basic computer skills, including working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
- Effective interpersonal, oral and written communication skills with the ability to interact with all levels of people within and outside the organization
- Strong mathematical and analytical skills to develop knowledge of market prices, trends, and future direction with ability to use this knowledge to make sound business decisions.
- Strong problem solving and resolutions skills.
- Ability to lead, influence, and direct staff and others as needed to ensure a successful program.
- Working knowledge of the basics of commodity transportation.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and comply with all applicable regulations.
- Strong organizational, strategic planning, time management and multi-tasking skills, with ability to remain flexible to changing priorities.
- Good time management and organization skills.
- Ability to work extended hours, as needed.

Physical Demands & Requirements
Light work. Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. If the use of arm and/or leg controls requires exertion of forces greater than that for sedentary work and the worker sits most of the time, the job is rated for light work.

Occasional travel for off-site trainings, meetings, & customer visits.
The expected base pay range for this role is:
$84,825.00 - $123,279.00
Actual pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including work location, job-related knowledge, skills and relevant experience for the job. Pay amount does not guarantee employment for any particular period of time.
