Role Description 

 

The Senior Director, Thought Leadership & Content Strategy drives Equinix's global agenda on AI infrastructure, multi-cloud connectivity, and data sovereignty through executive narratives, proprietary research, and differentiated content. The role leads a world-class global team, oversees high-impact storytelling and customer programs, and partners with C-suite leaders on keynotes and comms. It establishes content governance, shapes cross-functional messaging, and positions Equinix as the industry-defining voice. This is a critical leadership role in Global Marketing. 

 

The successful individual will develops integrated marketing plans and activities for specific product(s) or product line(s) to establish, enhance or distinguish product placement and develops business plans and product positioning in the marketplace. Aligns content, sales enablement, timing and delivery of marketing messaging to maximize the impact. Oversees the market research, monitors competitive activity and identifies customer needs.    

 

 

 

Key Responsibilities: 

Thought Leadership Strategy  

  • Drive Equinix's global thought leadership agenda, by defining the ideas and perspectives that position Equinix as the category-defining voice on AI infrastructure, multi-cloud connectivity, and data sovereignty  

  • Develop and steward the company's core intellectual property - the frameworks, points of view, and research that underpin the company narrative  

  • Lead a rolling thought leadership calendar with consistent, differentiated positioning across channels. 

  • Identify emerging technology and market trends - distributed AI, agentic networks, sovereign infrastructure - and translate them into forward-looking perspectives before the market catches up  

  • Partner with the Communications function to create strategic content for executive thought leadership and external engagement  

 

Content Strategy and Execution  

  • Build and lead a world-class owned content engine producing flagship long-form pieces, executive narratives, and research-driven assets that earn attention - not just fill a content calendar  

  • Commission and oversee original market research in partnership with analyst firms (Gartner, Forrester, IDC) to generate proprietary data that powers sales and analyst conversations  

  • Develop an impactful customer storytelling program - producing documentary-quality customer narratives that make Equinix's platform transformation visible and credible  

  • Establish content quality standards and editorial governance across the marketing organization, ensuring every external asset reflects the platform company voice Equinix is building  

  • Maintain a deep understanding of the competitive landscape -hyperscalers, telcos, and emerging players - and develop content that sharpens Equinix's differentiated position without ceding neutrality  

 

Narrative Development 

  • Build and maintain a suite of core messaging architectures — for different audiences, verticals, and use cases — that sales, marketing and communications teams can draw from consistently  

  • Translate complex technical capabilities into compelling business narratives that resonate with CIOs, CTOs, CFOs, and board-level audiences  

  • Partner the Equinix communications function on the development of executive keynotes/presentations and other strategic content with sharp, defensible points of view to drive high-impact external engagement with target audiences  

 

Content Operations and Team Leadership  

  • Build, lead, and develop a high-performing thought leadership and content team, including writers, researchers, and content strategists located globally  

  • Develop succession plans and individual growth strategies for team members; foster a culture of intellectual curiosity, editorial excellence, and commercial impact  

  • Manage relationships with external content partners, research firms and specialist content agencies 

 

Cross-functional Collaboration  

  • Partner with Product Marketing, Communications, Analyst Relations, and Demand Generation to ensure thought leadership content flows across all channels and serves all commercial objectives  

  • Collaborate with regional marketing leaders in AMER, EMEA, and APAC to adapt global narratives for local market relevance without fragmenting the core positioning  

  • Work closely with Sales Enablement to ensure thought leadership assets are translated into tools that accelerate pipeline and support customer conversations  

  • Act as an internal content authority, advising on messaging hierarchy, narrative consistency, and positioning decisions across the business  

 

 

Qualifications: 

Content Strategy and Execution 

  • Proven years of professional experience in thought leadership, content strategy, editorial leadership, or executive communications - ideally spanning both journalism/editorial and corporate environments  

  • Demonstrated track record of building thought leadership programs that have meaningfully shifted market perception of a company or category  

  • Exceptional writing ability - capable of producing board-room quality narrative, compelling long-form editorial, and crisp executive ready content. Recognized as a world-class writer and editor  

  • Deep familiarity with enterprise technology markets - cloud infrastructure, networking, AI, or adjacent categories - sufficient to develop credible, original points of view  

  • Experience managing and developing high-performing creative and editorial teams in a global, matrixed organization  

  • Proven ability to work directly with C-suite executives as a trusted content and messaging partner  

  • Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree in journalism, communications, business, or technology preferred  

  • Experience with major analyst relations programs and the ability to develop research that earns analyst credibility is a strong advantage

  • Consistent, differentiated messaging adopted across global sales and marketing teams
