The Senior Director of FinOps will build and lead BNY’s Technology FinOps capability to drive financial accountability and maximize ROI across the technology estate. Operating in a dual-report structure to the Engineering Hub Lead and the CFO, Engineering, this role spans strategy, execution, and influence—standing up the operating model, recruiting and leading a team, and embedding cost-conscious decision-making across a complex, multi-cloud, multi-vendor environment. The initial scope on cloud and AI cost management, extends into data platform economics, and will expand over time to include software usage-based contracts. In this role, you’ll make an impact in the following ways:
- Strategy and Operating Model: Define and execute the enterprise FinOps strategy aligned with engineering, finance, and business objectives; stand up and operate a hub-and-spoke model with centralized standards and decentralized execution across domain teams.
- Financial Management: Partner with Finance to establish cost taxonomy, allocation rules, and metadata standards to enable showback, chargeback, forecasting, and auditability; enable Finance to deliver transparent cost allocation by business unit, product, application, environment, and owner.
- Cost Optimization: Manage commitment-based spend and optimize coverage versus utilization across providers; lead optimization initiatives such as rightsizing, idle resource cleanup, quota tuning, and license reclamation; own budget guardrails, variance reporting, anomaly detection, and remediation workflows; build forecasting models and track unit economics tied to measurable business outcomes.
- Data and Automation: Partner with the Engineering analytics lead to normalize the spend data model across provider feeds leveraging the FOCUS billing data standard; oversee the cost data pipeline from ingestion through reporting and self-service analytics for Finance and Engineering; partner with Engineering Analytics to deliver enterprise dashboards and enable automated alerting, recommendations, and remediation workflows; ensure data quality, lineage, and auditability across all FinOps data assets.
- Governance, Risk and Compliance: Establish governance cadences including weekly operational reviews, monthly forecast/budget reviews, and quarterly contract/architecture reviews; partner with procurement and legal on contract renewals, vendor rationalization, and commercial optimization.
To be successful in this role, we’re seeking the following:

- 10+ years in technology finance, cloud engineering, infrastructure operations, or related discipline; at least 3 years leading a FinOps or technology cost management function.
- Proven track record of building a FinOps capability from early maturity to a steady-state operating model in a large enterprise.
- Strong understanding of cloud pricing models, commitment instruments, and consumption-based billing across major providers; experience designing cost allocation models, tagging taxonomies, and chargeback/showback frameworks.
- Demonstrated ability to influence without authority across engineering, finance, procurement, and executive stakeholders; excellent analytical, communication, and executive presentation skills; experience in financial services or a similarly regulated industry; preferred experience with AI or data platform cost governance and unit economics.

BNY assesses market data to ensure a competitive compensation package for our employees. The base salary for this position is expected to be between $136,500 and $275,000 per year at the commencement of employment. However, base salary if hired will be determined on an individualized basis, including as to experience and market location, and is only part of the BNY total compensation package, which, depending on the position, may also include commission earnings, discretionary bonuses, short and long-term incentive packages, and Company-sponsored benefit programs.
This position is at-will and the Company reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, change in geographic location, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.
