The Role

Treaty Oak Clean Energy is searching for a Technical Senior Director to join our leadership team, reporting directly to the Senior Vice President of Engineering, Procurement, and Construction. In this strategic role, you will apply risk-informed and economic design principles to strengthening the transition of projects from late-stage engineering into construction of our utility-scale solar and battery storage projects by ensuring that designs are translated into efficient, cost-effective, and constructible field solutions. The Technical Senior Director will work in close partnership with Engineering, and the Treaty Oak Construction team to ensure seamless alignment between design intent and field execution, providing leadership and oversight to ensure key engineering inputs and site constraints are effectively incorporated into constructible and execution-ready solutions

This role brings a technical & execution-driven perspective to project design delivery, supporting the refinement of engineering outputs through practical field insights, lessons learned, and contractor engagement.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as a primary integration point between Engineering and Construction, ensuring a smooth and efficient transition from design completion into field execution.

  • Provide constructability input during late-stage design phases (60%, 90%, IFC), validating that designs are aligned with practical installation methods, site conditions, and sequencing strategies.

  • Collaborate with Engineering teams to incorporate execution-driven insights, field lessons learned, and Construction team into design refinement, supporting improved buildability and reduced execution risk.

  • Support the Construction team to evaluate construction sequencing, logistics planning, and means and methods to enhance efficiency, reduce cost, and improve schedule performance.

  • Identify and drive cost optimization opportunities across projects, including material utilization, equipment selection, installation methodologies, and construction sequencing.

  • Support the Engineering and Construction teams by proactively addressing design-to-field coordination gaps, RFIs, and constructability challenges that may impact schedule or cost.

  • Support Construction on risk identification and mitigation efforts, including evaluation of site access, logistics, staging, environmental constraints, and construction sequencing.

  • Coordinate closely with Engineering, Procurement and Construction teams to ensure equipment selections and vendor strategies align with installation realities and do not introduce unnecessary complexity or execution risk.

  • Participate in key design reviews, vendor evaluations, and EPC alignment discussions to ensure execution considerations are embedded early and consistently throughout project development.

  • Track, assess, and communicate risks, cost impacts, and schedule considerations to leadership, enabling informed and timely decision-making.

  • Leverage portfolio-wide lessons learned and field experience to continuously improve constructability standards, execution efficiency, and project delivery consistency.

Education & Qualifications

  • Minimum of 10+ years of experience in utility-scale solar, High Voltage, BESS or infrastructure design, with an understanding of electrical design considerations

  • Demonstrated experience working across both engineering coordination and construction execution for utility-scale PV and/or BESS projects.

  • Strong technical understanding of:

  • PV systems (modules, trackers, inverters, DC/AC systems)

  • BESS systems and integration

  • High-voltage substations and interconnection facilities

  • Civil, structural, and electrical interfaces in large-scale infrastructure projects

  • Proven ability to evaluate constructability, construction sequencing, and field logistics in complex project environments.

  • Experience working directly with the Construction Team, OEMs, and field teams to drive execution outcomes and resolve project challenges.

  • Strong commercial acumen, with the ability to identify, evaluate, and communicate cost-saving opportunities and execution trade-offs.

  • Familiarity with engineering deliverables (e.g., site layouts, single-line diagrams, technical specifications), with an emphasis on interpretation and execution alignment.

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering or equivalent required. Emphasis in electrical power systems strongly preferred.

  • Strong understanding of project risks in solar and storage, with the ability to message to internal and external shareholders

  • Understanding of permitting agency requirements and constructability concerns for utility scale solar and storage projects.

  • Multitasking, dynamic, self-motivated individual able to work in groups or independently

  • Ability to simultaneously support multiple development projects across multiple states and regions

  • Supportive, resourceful, and willing to take on new tasks

  • Ability to support multiple projects across various regions simultaneously in a fast-paced development and execution environment.

  • Excellent communication and stakeholder coordination skills, with the ability to align technical, commercial, and field perspectives.
