Key responsibilities for the role
Serve as technical owner of the Coates operating system and HW platform stack, defining the architecture that governs how the application, OS, and physical player hardware manifest in the physical locations.
Establish and enforce HW platform standards, configuration baselines, and governance frameworks that enable consistent, scalable deployments across the estate.
Maintain authoritative documentation of the HW platform architecture and lead its evolution in line with product and commercial direction.
Define and maintain a tiered model of physical player technology, mapping hardware performance tiers to application capability and commercial positioning.
Validate and formally approve new physical platform technologies before adoption into the Coates ecosystem.
Own the hardware lifecycle strategy — from procurement standards and refresh cycles through to retirement — standardising models across the estate to improve supportability and cost efficiency.
Drive the evolution of Coates deployment and upgrade models to reduce time, cost, and operational complexity for both Coates and its customers.
Define and implement secure, scalable approaches to OS patching, application updates, and remote device management across the deployed estate.
Lead the architecture for new site deployments, platform rollouts, and technology pilots — including tooling, imaging standards, and provisioning processes.
Ensure the reliability and uptime of the Coates technology estate through robust monitoring, observability tooling, and incident management frameworks.
Act as the senior escalation point for complex platform incidents spanning hardware, OS, network, or application layers.
Drive continuous improvement by analysing incident patterns, eliminating systemic issues, and providing regular estate health reporting.
Partner with the CTO and commercial leadership to define technology tiers that reflect genuine performance differentiation and support compelling customer propositions.
Evaluate emerging technologies and vendor solutions with both a technical and commercial lens, contributing platform capability to the product roadmap.
Define strategies to enable Coates solutions across mixed and multi-architecture store environments, expanding the addressable customer base.
