Senior Director, Operations Learning and Development  

College Board - Operations 

Location: This is a fully remote role. Candidates who live near CB offices have the option of being fully remote or hybrid (Tuesday and Wednesday in office) 

Type: This is a full-time position

College Board’s Operations division is a best-in-class digital assessment delivery and customer engagement function that supports millions of students and thousands of test centers, annually. The Operations team is also leading exciting work to advance customer experience through the use of innovative solutions, products and technology to enhance the end-to-end delivery of digital assessments and all aspects of customer support. The Knowledge, Learning & Operational Effectiveness team collaborates across all operational functions to design and deliver integrated infrastructure solutions that power our core operations. Our mission is to create a connected ecosystem that supports the College Board’s digital experience, enabling operational efficiency and exceptional customer outcomes. From backend systems to educator-facing content, every solution we deliver is purposefully crafted to enhance the customer journey, ensuring seamless, intuitive, and impactful interactions at every stage.  

About the Opportunity  

The Senior Director of Learning and Development operates at the intersection of Product and Operations, leading the design and delivery of impactful learning solutions. This role ensures both internal, front-line teams are equipped to confidently support the delivery of College Board digital assessments. By leveraging industry best practices, data-driven insights, and emerging learning technologies, you will develop solutions that drive business performance, foster a culture of continuous learning, and enhance staff engagement.  You bring a proven track record of rapidly building new capabilities, leading high-performing teams, and delivering measurable success.  A strategic thinker and hands-on builder, you excel in instructional design, delivery of scalable learning platforms, and learner enablement to deliver solutions that enhance the customer journey and enable operational excellence at scale.  

Specific responsibilities include:  

Set Vision & Strategy (40%) 

  • Set the overarching vision and roadmap for internal operational Learning and Development capabilities. 

  • Lead product management for the Learning Management System, accountable for end user experiences for both internal operations and external learners, such as Test Coordinators. 

  • Develop a deep understanding of the broad operational learner persona’s and develop a structured framework to deliver new learning approaches that significantly enhance engagement, knowledge retention, and performance outcomes.   

  • Create workflows and standards to ensure learning resources are continuously updated and aligned with cross-functional product and customer experience requirements. 

  • Develop, monitor, and report on critical measurements to assess the effectiveness of learning programs and utilize feedback to improve the support and success of customers. 

 

Provide team leadership and cross-functional collaboration (30%) 

  • Recruit and mentor a cohesive team of learning professional direct reports, fostering an environment that promotes team collaboration, innovation, and high performance.   

  • Establish partnerships and strategies with internal stakeholders across Product/Program, Operations, and Technology to embed and align learning and development priorities with broader milestones and/or organizational goals.  

  • Build and drive a performance-based culture and actions to support an inclusive and engaged team. 

 

Drive continuous improvement & innovation: (30%) 

  • Identify, evaluate, and lead the implementation of emerging learning technologies, including AI, experiences, adaptive learning systems, and mobile learning tools, to create impactful, and flexible learning experiences.   

  • Establish standards for instructional design, including accessibility, engagement, and assessment strategies, to ensure high-quality learning experiences. 

  • Design curriculum and content for various audiences and delivery methods to include both synchronous and asynchronous learning. Design learning assets such as, facilitator guides, self-assessments, job aids, and problem-solving resources.  

 

About You 

You have: 

  • 10+ years of experience in learning and development, including adult learning theory, instructional design, content development and assessment principles.  

  • Exceptional strategic thinking, analytical and planning skills - you can build a strategy, connect the dots, and build towards the future  

  • Strong leadership, coaching and team-building skills.   

  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-stakes, and dynamic environment and lead through change  

  • Experience as a highly collaborative leader with ability to influence others and build strong relationships across internal and external stakeholders  

  • Experience leading high-visibility projects from start to finish with measurable results  

  • Experience in customer centric product development and agile delivery methodologies   

  • Adept problem-solving skills, including using data to inform decisions and actions    

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including facilitating meetings and presenting remotely and in-person to groups of 15 or more   

  • The ability to travel 5-6 times a year to College Board offices or on behalf of College Board business 

  • You are authorized to work in the United States of America 

 

About Our Process

The hiring range for a new employee in this position is $104,000 to $170,000. College Board differentiates salaries by location so where you live will narrow the portion of this range in which you can expect a salary.  

Your salary will be carefully determined based on your location, relevant experience, the external labor market, and the pay of College Board employees in similar roles. College Board strives to provide our best offer up front based on this criteria
