WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR
Nike is seeking a Senior Director of Observability Engineering to lead and grow our observability engineering organization based in Bengaluru, India, serving Nike teams around the world. This role is responsible for defining strategy, scaling platforms, and driving operational excellence for how Nike observes, monitors, and operates its global digital ecosystem.
You are a senior technology leader with proven experience running enterprise‑scale observability platforms, building and leading large global teams from India, and partnering effectively with senior stakeholders across geographies. You bring deep technical credibility, strong people leadership, and a bias for execution in complex, always‑on environments.
This role reports into senior technology leadership and operates as a critical India-based leadership pillar for Nike’s global observability and reliability strategy.
WHAT YOU WILL WORK ON
Own and execute Nike’s global observability strategy from India, spanning metrics, logs, traces, and operational intelligence.
Lead the design, deployment, and continuous evolution of enterprise observability platforms supporting thousands of services and large‑scale telemetry volumes.
Establish and enforce engineering standards, reference architectures, and best practices for instrumentation, telemetry pipelines, data quality, and cost governance.
Drive global adoption of modern observability practices, including OpenTelemetry (OTel) instrumentation and standardized telemetry pipelines.
Provide senior leadership oversight for incident management and operational excellence, using PagerDuty, ServiceNow, and AIOps platforms to improve MTTR, availability, and resiliency.
Partner closely with global Platform Engineering, SRE, Cloud Infrastructure, and Product Engineering leaders across regions.
Represent observability and operational health at executive forums, providing insights through business‑ready dashboards, analytics, and operational metrics.
Influence Nike’s broader reliability, availability, and operational maturity roadmap, with strong execution ownership from India.

WHAT YOU BRING
Leadership & Experience
Bachelor's degree in computer science or related field. Will accept any suitable combination of education, experience and training.
Advanced degree in software engineering preferred.
15+ years of experience in software or platform engineering, including senior leadership ownership of observability at a large‑scale enterprise
Demonstrated success building and leading global teams from India, including managers and senior technical leaders
Proven ability to operate at scale, influence executive stakeholders, and balance strategy with hands‑on execution
Strong people leadership skills with a track record of growing engineering talent in India
Technical Capability
Extensive experience deploying and operating Splunk, New Relic, and Grafana LGTM stacks (Loki, Grafana, Tempo, Mimir/Prometheus) at enterprise scale
Deep understanding of observability principles across Metrics, Logs, and Traces (MLT) and service telemetry
Strong experience with instrumentation strategies, telemetry pipelines, data ingestion, retention, querying, and visualization
Experience with OpenTelemetry (OTel) ecosystems (instrumentation, collectors, exporters) strongly preferred
Solid background in cloud‑native architectures, Kubernetes, microservices, and distributed systems
Operations & Reliability
Deep experience leading incident management workflows using PagerDuty, ServiceNow, and AIOps tools
Proven success improving reliability, MTTR, and operational maturity across large production environments
Familiarity with SRE practices, SLIs/SLOs, error budgets, and sustainable on‑call models
