Job Description

Purpose

The Senior Director, APEX Neuroscience Lead drives the strategic direction and execution of APEX Neuroscience Business Unit teams, ensuring seamless delivery of insights, analytics, and field functions across the Business Unit. This role optimizes APEX performance by championing analytics prioritization, enabling cross-functional coordination, and ensuring disciplined resource allocation to address strategic questions from global pipeline and U.S. brand and sales teams. Acting as an indispensable strategic advisor to Commercial leadership up to and including Business Unit Lead level, this leader ensures APEX delivers consistent, unified, data-driven insights — empowering BU leaders to make confident, forward-looking decisions.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a trusted strategic advisor to Commercial executives and BU Leads, providing insights, guiding strategy, and influencing key decisions with objectivity and courage. Own full accountability for the team's work product approach, quality, and timeliness.

  • Lead and prioritize BU analytical initiatives, ensuring high-quality, timely insights while driving operational excellence across global pipeline and on-market U.S. Brand/Franchise/Sales teams.

  • Translate brand business problems into clear analytical paths for APEX teams; synthesize and connect insights across functions to deliver an integrated 1APEX and 1AbbVie perspective.

  • Drive empowered cross-functional partnerships within APEX, TA&O, BTS, Finance, and broader commercial stakeholders; negotiate prioritization of time and resources on the highest-value projects and protect strategic thinking time for the team.

  • Lead APEX strategic transformation, including establishment of best practices, continuous improvement, and adoption of emerging techniques and industry innovation to evolve team capabilities.

  • Oversee field planning, tools, and incentive compensation capabilities; support delivery of field effectiveness resources and drive integration across APEX centers of excellence.

  • Develop and maintain deep understanding of the global healthcare business environment — including federal, state and local governments, payors and managed markets, distribution channels, and pricing strategies — to inform brand and analytics strategies.

  • Provide understanding of market research design, sound analytical approaches, and the interrelationships between financial measures to support brand marketing teams in informed decision-making.

  • Embody strong decision-making practices; provide clarity and focus on key priorities, help teams manage workload accordingly, and seek opportunities to streamline and right-size analytical work relative to the business decision at hand.

  • Lead, coach, and develop a high-performing, inclusive, and engaged team. Attract top talent, provide timely and specific feedback, champion development plans, and push decision-making to the appropriate level to build team confidence and capability.

Qualifications

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Market Research, or a related field required; Master's degree in Business or Analytics preferred.

  • 10+ years of experience in Marketing Analytics or Market Research.

  • 5+ years leading an analytical function; commercial analytics experience required.

  • Demonstrated expertise in analytical and strategic thinking to guide prioritization, connect insights, and support informed decision-making for cross-functional, global, and affiliate teams.

  • Proven track record as an indispensable business leader and strategic advisor to senior Commercial leadership.

  • Strong fluency in BU/franchises and field planning, with a solid understanding of cross-APEX team collaboration for effective brand support.

  • Ability to translate complex business issues into addressable analytical questions and actionable recommendations.

  • Experience leading teams through change; champions innovation, questions the status quo, and fosters a speak-up, development-centered team environment.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills; able to make people feel heard while driving direct, transparent discussions to reach the best decisions for AbbVie.

  • Understanding of compliance requirements, including AbbVie Code of Conduct, and ability to model and reinforce a culture of compliance on the team.
