Honeywell is hiring a Senior Director - Government Relations, Emerging Technology & Corporate Policy. The Government Relations function at Honeywell is responsible for advising and advocating for legislative and regulatory policies that support Honeywell’s business objectives; providing sales support for major policy wins and pursuits with government customers and state-owned enterprises; ensuring critical strategic relationships with policy makers; and enabling growth while minimizing risks.

Success within the Government Relations function is measured by priority Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) along several strategic pillars, developed in coordination with our leadership and regularly validated.

This position will report directly to our Vice President, Automation & Americas.  You will work out of our Washington, DC, location on a Hybrid work schedule.

Government Relations is focused on enhancing growth opportunities and shaping the operating environment for Honeywell as a pure play automation and energy business. In this role, you will drive emerging tech policy advocacy on AI, data, digital regulation and cybersecurity globally and lead corporate advocacy on issues such as labor and employment and corporate governance.  You will build and sustain senior relationships for Honeywell across the Executive Branch, Congress, state governments, and external stakeholders.  Working closely with internal leaders, you will coordinate issue and position development to shape tech regulation globally. You will develop KPIs that tie policy outcomes to growth, reduce compliance complexity, protect our brand and reputation, and strengthen Honeywell’s ability to innovate and compete.

ResponsibilitiesKEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Develop and execute enterprise-wide government relations strategies for achieving emerging technology and corporate policy priorities globally.
  • Lead advocacy to shape global legislation, regulation, executive actions, and agency guidance in emerging tech policy areas AI and data, digital regulation and cybersecurity, as well as in policy areas affecting the corporate enterprise such as industrial policy and incentives, infrastructure modernization, labor and employment, and corporate governance. 
  • Develop technical submissions and white papers in support of priorities.
  • Brief business and functional leaders on legislative, regulatory, and enforcement developments; translate complex policy into business impacts, decision points, reputational/shareholder considerations, and recommended actions.  Plan and execute executive engagement.
  • Build and maintain senior relationships with Congress, the White House, and key agencies and regulators; drive outcomes through credible engagement, coalition-building, and strategic communications.
  • Collaborate with business leaders to support major pursuits and enable market access, including advocacy on procurement policy, acquisition and authorization processes, contracting requirements, and other regulatory processes that affect customer adoption.
  • Partner to align external advocacy with internal governance, controls, regulatory readiness, and enterprise messaging, advising on reputational and stakeholder impacts of public policy activities, and ensuring commitment to government relations’ compliance, ethics, and reporting responsibilities.
  • Represent Honeywell in trade associations, coalitions, and external forums; build alliances to amplify priority outcomes and mitigate risk.
Qualifications

YOU MUST HAVE:

  • 15+ years of progressive experience in federal or state government relations, public policy, public affairs or advocacy for a corporation, multi-national enterprise, utility, trade association, firm, or government agency with a significant track record of policy achievements.
  • Relevant background in tech policy, digital regulation, cyber and corporate policy issues; strong knowledge of government processes and policy development.
  • Political acumen; ability to strategize, build trusted relationships, and represent an organization with credibility with senior government stakeholders.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, including executive-level briefing and messaging and preparation of government policy submissions.
  • Ability to lead complex, cross-functional initiatives and manage multiple priorities in a fast-moving environment.
  • Experience working in or with large, matrixed organizations, partnering effectively with integrity and good judgment.

  • Experience with subject material relevant to our business and customers such as  standards and certifications; utilities; cybersecurity; emerging technologies; digital products/services; business transformations; energy policy and security; workforce issues; corporate governance.
  • Experience relevant to corporate PAC (e.g., fundraising, recruiting) and political compliance activities (e.g., lobbying registrations, reporting, ethics rules).
  • Ability to synthesize technical concepts and communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical audiences; courage to take on new and challenging policy projects.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including scenario planning and risk assessment.
  • Demonstrated leadership style that is focused, collaborative, proactive, and outcome driven. Acts with urgency to prioritize and make decisions quickly.
  • Strong intellectual capacity and high personal standards of excellence.
  • Personal presence, executive communication skills and credibility.

PAY EQUITY

The annual base salary range for this position is $260,000 - $325,000. Please note that this salary information serves as a general guideline. Honeywell considers various factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to the scope and responsibilities of the position, the candidate's work experience, education and training, key skills, as well as market and business considerations.

EXPORT COMPLIANCE

Due to compliance with U.S. export control laws and regulations, candidate must be a U.S. Person, which is defined as, a U.S. citizen, a U.S. permanent resident, or have protected status in the U.S. under asylum or refugee status or have the ability to obtain an export authorization.
