Our Opportunity:
Chewy is seeking a Senior Director of Fulfillment Science and Technology. The ideal candidate is a highly motivated, goal-oriented, and hands-on technology leader who thrives in a fast-paced environment. This leader will be responsible for building, managing, and developing a high-performing team of people leaders, engineers, scientists, product managers, and program managers. The team is accountable for the science and technology solutions that power Chewy's fulfillment network, including both large-scale fulfillment centers supporting Chewy's core business and smaller-scale centers dedicated to Chewy's Healthcare business.
This is a multidisciplinary technical team with expertise in artificial intelligence, data science, research science, software engineering, industrial engineering, robotics engineering, business intelligence, and technical product management. The Senior Director will collaborate closely with senior leaders across Chewy's business functions to drive key business outcomes, including net sales growth, customer experience improvements, and operational cost efficiency.
What You'll Do:
- Lead a team of approximately 20 people leaders and 80 individual contributors across three sub-teams: Design Engineering, Fulfillment Execution Technology, and Fulfillment Science.
- Develop and own a multi-year technology and science roadmap to achieve long-term business goals focused on net sales growth, customer experience, and operational cost optimization.
- Design and implement new fulfillment infrastructure, capabilities, processes, and systems.
- Develop cutting-edge automation and robotics solutions for Chewy's fulfillment centers.
- Create innovative data science, AI, and software solutions to optimize labor, inventory, and customer order management across Chewy's fulfillment network.
- Build reporting tools to monitor and manage fulfillment network performance.
- Partner with cross-functional leaders in Merchandising, Operations, Healthcare, Transportation, and Technology to define solutions, share insights, and improve key operational metrics.
What You'll Need:
- Bachelor's Degree (Engineering, MIS, CS, or related field)
- 12+ years of experience managing engineering, operations, or operations support teams
- Experience designing high throughput fulfillment centers
- Experience developing automated and robotic material handling solutions
- Experience developing high availability and performant software systems
- Experience developing operational data science models and AI embedded systems
- Ability to manage multiple high priority projects in a fast-paced environment
- Excellent written and oral communication skills

The base salary range for this role is $229,500 - $325,000.00.
- The specific salary offered to a candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors including but not limited to the candidate's relevant experience, education, and work location. In addition, this position is eligible for 401k and a new hire and annual equity grant. C08+ positions may also be eligible for annual bonus.

Exempt salary team members have unlimited PTO, subject to manager approval. Team members will receive six paid holidays per year. Team members may be eligible for paid sick and family leave in compliance with applicable state and local regulations.
