Who We Are Looking For
The Senior Director of Engineering is a visionary leader responsible for orchestrating the development of a next-generation, AI-native EMR product. With a strong engineering background and high technical acumen, this leader works in close partnership with Architecture and Product teams to enforce technical standards, solve complex engineering challenges, and drive rigorous project delivery while ensuring the integrity of the product vision. This individual excels at navigating high complexity, coordinating large-scale dependencies, and ensuring architectural consistency across both internal and third-party engineering resources. The primary focus is on cross-team collaboration, high-level resource planning, and relentless project execution to ensure this product becomes a market leader.
What You’ll Be Doing As A Part of Our Team
Strategic Leadership & Technical Orchestration
- Strategic Autonomy: Function with high autonomy to align engineering execution with the overall company vision, driving major technological advancements and high-level resource planning.
- Product Synergy: Partner closely with Product Management to synchronize the definition and delivery of core features, ensuring that technical service APIs and AI orchestration are developed in lockstep with clinical workflows and user experience milestones.
- Architectural Partnership: Collaborate closely with the Architecture team to translate high-level reference architectures into actionable development plans, ensuring all work products adhere to established technical standards.
- AI-Native Product Delivery: Oversee the engineering of a foundational data model and service API layer specifically designed to power streamlined, agentic AI workflows and next-generation UI experiences.
- Engineering Excellence: Exercise high-level technical judgment to resolve complex engineering bottlenecks and drive issue resolution without the need for hands-on code development.
Operational Oversight & Execution
- Vendor & Resource Management: Direct and hold accountable significant third-party development resources to ensure external contributions meet quality bars and delivery milestones.
- Dependency & Risk Management: Identify and mitigate risks across multiple workstreams; resolve complex cross-product dependencies and ensure strategic consistency.
- Performance Analytics: Analyze complex metrics to identify strategic trends and implement large-scale performance improvement plans, reporting progress directly to executive leadership.
- Leadership Cultivation: Develop and mentor Engineering Directors and Managers, fostering leadership development and ensuring effective talent management across the engineering organization.
What You Should Have to Qualify
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
- Professional Experience: 13–15 years of progressive engineering experience, with a proven track record of leading high-complexity product builds and managing multi-disciplinary teams.
- Technical Acumen: Sufficient technical depth to engage effectively with Architects and Principal Engineers on AI-native design patterns, API strategy, and scalable data models.
- AI/ML Strategic Perspective: A high-level understanding of the modern AI ecosystem—including LLM orchestration and agentic workflows—sufficient to evaluate technical trade-offs, scalability, and the impact of AI architectural choices on the end-user clinical experience.
- Execution Mastery: Demonstrated experience managing large-scale, third-party development partners to accelerate time-to-market without sacrificing architectural integrity.
- Leadership Traits: A natural ability to navigate organizational complexity, align stakeholders, and drive a culture of "quality by design."
Ideally, You Would Also Have These
