Sol Systems is seeking a Senior Director of Energy Storage to join our team in Washington, DC. This individual will work across multiple business units to advance the company’s comprehensive utility-scale energy storage strategy ensuring alignment with the organization’s business objectives and priorities. This multi-faceted role will require advanced energy storage development and commercial expertise, a deep understanding of market operations and revenue opportunities, project level technical knowledge, cross-department collaboration and communication, and strategic analysis. The ideal candidate will demonstrate the ability to integrate commercial, technical, development, and market considerations into cohesive business strategies that maximize long-term corporate and project value.

Core Responsibilities:
- Serve as the company's subject matter expert on utility-scale battery energy storage, providing strategic leadership across commercial, technical, development, and market-related aspects of the business.
- Lead the commercial strategy for energy storage projects, identifying, evaluating, and structuring revenue opportunities through wholesale markets, bilateral transactions, tolls, capacity products, and emerging commercial constructs.
- Support the development and execution of utility-scale battery storage projects from origination through NTP, including the evaluation and advancement of both greenfield development opportunities and M&A transactions.
- Provide strategic insight into evolving power market dynamics, including capacity market design, resource adequacy, speed-to-power opportunities, and emerging customer procurement trends.
- Advise on battery storage technology, system design, and operational performance, ensuring commercial strategies are grounded in technical capabilities, project economics, and long-term asset performance.
- Collaborate across Development, Policy, Engineering, Finance, Asset Management, Market Intelligence, and executive leadership to refine, adapt, and execute a unified company-wide energy storage strategy.
- Develop and evaluate new commercial products and business models that position the company for long-term competitive advantage as the energy storage industry continues to evolve.
- Represent Sol Systems externally with customers, utilities, ISOs/RTOs, consultants, equipment suppliers, and industry organizations
A successful candidate will possess the following experience and attributes:
- 5+ years of experience in utility-scale battery energy storage, with utility-scale solar experience considered a plus.
- Demonstrated success developing and commercializing utility-scale energy projects from origination through Notice to Proceed (NTP).
- Strong commercial acumen with a deep understanding of wholesale power markets (PJM, MISO, and SPP favored), revenue opportunities, and project economics.
- Strategic thinker with the ability to anticipate evolving market dynamics and develop innovative business solutions.
- Collaborative, team-oriented leader with exceptional analytical, communication, and relationship management skills.
- Working knowledge of battery energy storage technology, system design, and operational performance.
- Willingness to travel as required to support business objectives (approximately 15%).
Location & Hours: This is a full-time hybrid role based in Sol’s Washington, DC headquarters. Remote option is not offered this time.
Commitment & Compensation: The base salary for this role is between $200,000 and $220,000 annually, depending on the candidate’s experience, qualifications, and overall fit for the position.
