The Senior Director, Digital Innovation & Transformation is a global leadership role responsible for shaping and executing the digital strategy in support of the GLO. This role defines the vision for how to transform legal practices by adopting an AI-enabled, digital-first approach to position the GLO for competitive advantage. This includes digital capabilities, automation, and AI to improve speed to the business and reduce low-value work within the GLO, improving satisfaction and experience.

Reporting to senior legal leadership, the role partners closely with legal, technology, and business stakeholders to identify and prioritize high-impact opportunities, design and scale innovative solutions, and embed modern product and Agile practices across the organization. With deep expertise in digital delivery, this role oversees the development of a cohesive digital ecosystem – spanning tools, platforms, and operating models – while ensuring effective governance, risk management, and stakeholder alignment.

This role has accountability to optimize and drive efficiency through technology opportunities across the GLO resource deployment model and oversees the GLO technology dedicated budget. The Senior Director will lead a team of approximately 6 FTEs and contractors based in global J&J locations, while also overseeing the entire ecosystem of technology support, including relationships with the J&J Technology organization (JJT) and implementation partners.

The ideal candidate should bring a strong understanding of how lawyers, privacy professionals, and other legal specialists operate and the services legal and privacy teams deliver – along with deep knowledge of current and emerging digital trends, tools, and practices that can transform service delivery models.

Key Responsibilities:

Digital Strategy

•            Establish and communicate the GLO digital vision, identifying target opportunities enabled by digital transformation

•            Promote and implement digital strategy, change, and transformation activities with strong adherence to best practices

•            Identify and prioritize use cases with sound business cases, including clear measures of financial and productivity gains

•            Build alignment on technology priorities and shared roadmaps amongst GLO teams and with JJT

•            Lead research and analysis on AI and generative AI trends and technologies applicable to legal and privacy fields

•            Develop and implement strategy for AI adoption and scaling within the GLO, ensuring compliance with J&J policies and guidelines

•            Drive AI fluency across the GLO and serve as the functional representative on enterprise AI governance forums

•            Develop comprehensive data strategy for the GLO to collect, manage, utilize, and protect its data assets

•            Lead the transition from a system-centric to a capability-led value delivery model aligned with strategic recommendations

Solution Design & Implementation

•            Oversee design and implementation of solutions, tools, and the operational model for GLO technology

•            Deploy and scale Agile practices across design, development, and service management

•            Drive end-to-end product development from concept to implementation, ensuring value creation at each stage

•            Manage the relationship and dynamics between business product owners (BPOs) within the GLO and technical product owners (TPOs) within JJT

•            Drive rationalization of legacy products and reduction of coordination overhead across the technology portfolio

•            Implement risk-based financial governance for technology investments and BPO/TPO accountability models

•            Ensure integration of digital solutions with existing infrastructure, representing the GLO as customer and user in technology scoping, selection, procurement, and implementation

Client-Centric Innovation

•            Drive a client-centric approach to innovation across GLO practice groups and sector expertise

•            Understand customers' challenges, requirements, and desires to create exceptional digital product experiences

•            Position the GLO as an innovation hub for legal professionals and J&J colleagues

•            Establish a high-value product vision informed by deep understanding of industry trends and pain points

•            Maintain and prioritize a backlog of product initiatives and concepts for future development

•            Conduct ongoing voice-of-customer activities and leverage market insights to validate opportunities within the digital portfolio

•            Foster a culture of innovation and continuous improvement within the broader GLO

•            Engage as a thought leader on digital and AI issues within the external legal industry

Team Leadership & Development

•            Build, lead, and develop a globally distributed digital innovation and transformation team serving the GLO

•            Lead people and teams with strengths-based feedback and Objectives & Key Results (OKR)-based individual development

•            Manage Agile team members and lead product development organizations

•            Provide coaching, feedback, performance management, and contribute to compensation decisions

•            Create and implement a communications plan to articulate vision, strategy, goals, and benefits of legal digital transformation

•            Use change management techniques to promote new capabilities, prepare GLO team members for new technologies, and ensure strong adoption

Required Qualifications:

•            Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree (MBA, JD, or equivalent) preferred.
