POSITION OVERVIEW

We are seeking a highly experienced Senior Director of Commercial Operations & Gas Supply to lead the integrated commercial strategy for our gas-fired power generation portfolio across ERCOT and PJM. This role will oversee both the market-facing power commercialization (PPAs, merchant sales, hedging) and the upstream natural gas procurement strategy (supply agreements, transportation, storage).

The ideal candidate will bring deep expertise in power markets and natural gas supply chains, a proven track record of negotiating complex commercial agreements, and the leadership skills to build and scale high-performing teams. This is a pivotal role that ensures our assets are optimally positioned from fuel procurement through power sales, driving long-term value creation. The employee may be required to perform other job-related duties as requested by management.  All duties will be assigned in accordance with applicable laws and company policies.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Commercial Power Strategy & Execution:

  • Lead commercial activities for gas-fired assets, including structured PPAs, hedging strategies, tolling agreements, and merchant sales.
  • Develop and implement short- and long-term market strategies to optimize plant revenue across ERCOT and PJM.
  • Partner with trading, asset management, and finance teams to align commercial strategies with company objectives.
  • Monitor market developments, price signals, and capacity markets to inform trading, scheduling, and dispatch strategies.
  • Ensure compliance with ERCOT, PJM, and FERC regulatory frameworks

PPA & Contract Negotiations:

  • Structure and negotiate PPAs and tolling agreements with utilities, C&I customers, and aggregators.
  • Ensure all contracts reflect operational capabilities, risk profiles, and regulatory requirements.

Upstream Gas Supply & Procurement

  • Lead strategic sourcing and procurement of natural gas for gas-fired generation assets, including peakers and CCGTs.
  • Negotiate and execute long-term gas supply agreements, pipeline transportation contracts, and storage arrangements.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with gas marketers, producers, and pipeline operators.

Market & Risk Management:

  • Monitor power market developments, price signals, and capacity markets to inform trading and scheduling strategies.
  • Support compliance with relevant regulatory frameworks including ERCOT, PJM, and FERC standards.

Cross-functional Collaboration:

  • Coordinate with Development, Legal, Engineering, Operations, and Trading teams to support project delivery and market participation.
  • Translate commercial objectives into operational alignment across business units.
  • Provide market intelligence and insights on both power and gas markets to inform corporate strategy.

Team Leadership & Growth:

  • Build and lead a high-performance commercial team aligned with future growth in gas-fired generation.
  • Mentor and develop team members and foster a collaborative, results-oriented culture.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • 10+ years of experience in commercial operations, energy trading, or origination in the natural gas or power generation sectors.
  • Strong track record negotiating and closing PPAs, tolling agreements, and merchant sales.
  • In-depth knowledge of gas power plant operations, including gas turbine technologies and dispatch economics.
  • Proven track record of negotiating and executing complex commercial agreements with suppliers and marketers.
  • Familiarity with gas trading practices, pipeline transportation, and storage structures.
  • Strong existing network of contacts in E&P and G&P markets, especially in ERCOT and PJM.
  • Strategic thinker with the ability to manage complex negotiations and assess long-term value.
  • Understanding of regulatory frameworks and risk management practices in power markets.
  • Proven leadership skills and ability to manage cross-functional teams.
  • Experience working for an Independent Power Producer (IPP), utility, or energy marketer.
  • Background in combined cycle gas turbine (CCGT) or peaker plant operations.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Economics, Business, or related field; advanced degree (MBA/MS) is a plus.

Compensation: $200,000 - $245,000 Salary
