We are seeking a talented DevOps / Systems Engineer to join our team. You'll own our infrastructure, CI/CD, and operational reliability. This is a build-it-right role we need someone who can design and implement production-grade infrastructure from a solid but basic starting point. You'll work closely with the full-stack developers and have direct input on architecture decisions.
How your time breaks down:
- Infrastructure (40%) Design and maintain AWS infrastructure. Manage containerized deployments (Docker, potentially ECS or Kubernetes). Set up and maintain PostgreSQL and Redis. Configure networking, security groups, and access controls. Implement infrastructure as code (Terraform or Pulumi). Manage secrets and environment configuration.
- CI/CD & Automation (30%) Build and maintain GitHub Actions pipelines. Automate testing, building, and deployment. Implement staging and production environments. Set up automated database migrations. Create deployment rollback procedures.
- Reliability & Monitoring (20%) Set up logging and monitoring (CloudWatch, Datadog, or similar). Configure alerting. Implement backup and disaster recovery. Monitor and optimize costs. Ensure security best practices.
- Developer Support (10%) Troubleshoot production issues. Support developers with environment setup. Document infrastructure and processes.
Required Skills:
- 5+ years of DevOps, Systems, or SRE experience
- Strong experience with AWS (EC2, S3, RDS, VPC, IAM at minimum)
- Experience with Docker and container orchestration
- Experience building CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, or similar)
- Experience with PostgreSQL administration (backups, monitoring, basic tuning)
- Experience with Linux server administration
- Understanding of networking and security fundamentals
- Experience with infrastructure as code (Terraform, Pulumi, CloudFormation, or CDK)
- Comfortable communicating in English (written and verbal async-first team)
- Available to overlap 4+ hours with US Eastern time
- Experience with Terraform specifically
- Experience with container orchestration at scale (ECS, EKS, or Kubernetes)
- Experience with Python (for scripting and understanding application code)
- Experience with Redis administration
- Experience with Celery or background task queue infrastructure
- Experience with monitoring tools (Datadog, CloudWatch, Prometheus/Grafana)
- Experience with cost optimization on AWS
Nice-to-have Skills:
- Experience with CDN configuration (CloudFront, Cloudflare)
- Experience with LLM API infrastructure (rate limiting, caching, cost tracking)
- Experience with geographic data serving (tile servers, PostGIS)
- Security certifications or strong security background
- Experience with Stripe webhook infrastructure
