Senior DevOps Engineer - Boston or Marlborough, MA (Hybrid)
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Senior DevOps Engineer to join our Agile infrastructure team. This role is critical in maintaining and enhancing our build and deployment pipelines, with a strong focus on managing our VCenter infrastructure, build tools, and all systems involved in the software build and test chain. The ideal candidate will have deep experience with Jenkins, including pipeline development and maintenance, and be proficient in Packer and ideally GitHub Actions.
The successful candidate will take ownership of the build infrastructure, suggest improvements, and work independently on project initiatives while also participating in coordinating build and release activities. Strong scripting skills in Python and Groovy are essential, as these are key to maintaining and extending our current systems.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Manage, expand, and maintain the VCenter infrastructure and related systems for product builds, testing, and day-to-day usage of Engineering.
- Support and enhance Jenkins-based build and test pipelines.
- Develop and maintain pipeline automation tools using Python and Groovy.
- Work with Packer to build and manage machine images.
- Assist with the setup and maintenance of GitHub Actions workflows (preferred).
- Coordinate build and release activities in collaboration with development teams.
- Create and contribute to branching, versioning, and release strategies using GitHub.
- Support and maintain all tools involved in the software build chain.
- Identify opportunities for system and process improvements and drive their implementation.
- Collaborate effectively in a highly interrupt-driven Agile service environment.
- Stay current with DevOps trends and cloud tooling; experience with cloud platforms is a plus.
Other Duties:
- This position can be based in our Boston or Malborough offices, but the incumbent may need to travel to the Marlborough office for projects, team meetings, and also to access physical equipment located in the Marlborough lab for their DevOps work.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology Management, or related degree, or equivalent experience
- Minimum of 5 years experience working in DevOps for enterprise software products with experience in one or more DevOps tools
- Familiarity with Release Engineering and Site Reliability and Performance are big pluses
- Experience with cloud tools and infrastructure (AWS, Azure, etc.).
- Strong communication and collaboration skills.
- Ability to work independently and in a team setting.
- Results-oriented mindset with a proactive approach to problem-solving.
- Self-motivated team player and an open-minded individual contributor who can help engineering reach its larger goals.
