Job Description:
We're looking for a Senior AWS DevOps Engineer to design, build, and operate the cloud infrastructure powering our high availability payment processing platform. You'll own reliability, automation, and security across a complex, regulated production environment handling live financial transactions. This is a hands-on senior role combining deep AWS expertise with a strong automation-first, infrastructure-as-code mindset.
Responsibilities:
Develop and maintain procedures to comply with security policies and IT best practices
• Develop and maintain documentation of systems configurations and procedures
• Monitor systems via applications, log files, Elk/OpenSearch and sanity checks
• Actively work on building and migrating PayFast to Kubernetes.
• Maintain our configuration and build management systems
• Database maintenance and implementations
• Serve as an escalation point to resolve problems in Servers and users’ environment
• Work closely with technical team members (cultural fit)
• Must be able to troubleshoot complex issues quickly and effectively
• Research and evaluation of new technologies for our environment
• CI, Testing and release management
• Firewall Administration
• Security and incident response
• Patch management
• Agile working methods, agile planning, time management and planning/prioritisation skills
Requirements:
• Certification (Bachelors / RHCE / ISO 27001/PCI) is a plus but not required
• High level of proficiency in Linux based OS
• Cloud Infrastructure (AWS) Associated Certified is a must have
• Containers (Docker + Kubernetes)
• Pipelines (Jenkins/Gitlab Ci)
• Proficiency in a scripting language and application language: Bash, Python, PHP, Perl, Java , Go
• Proven IaC experience in one of: SaltStack, Chef, Ansible, Puppet, Teraform
• Web Servers (Apache, Nginx, fpm, node)
• Load Balancers Experience
• Knowledge of Database technologies: AWS RDS (especially Maria and MySQL)
• NoSql DBs,pub/sub and Key/Value stores: Redis/mongo
• Replication technologies
• Experience in Networking: OSI, (AWS TGW and basic on prem OSI model)
• Queues – Rabbit, MQ
