The Senior Development Editor, High School position offers the opportunity to lead complex content initiatives from idea to execution. Success in this role requires a blend of excellent editorial judgment, logistical expertise, creative problem- solving, attention to detail, and strong cross-functional collaboration. The successful Senior Development Editor, High School will have a flexible, forward-oriented outlook and genuine enthusiasm for new technology, AI, and the changing nature of editorial work. This position anchors the operational core of content development and production, ensuring that every project runs smoothly and results in high-quality, inclusive teaching and learning materials.

The Senior Development Editor, High School translates deep understanding of teacher and student needs into successful project execution, developing everything from core text revisions and Teacher's Editions to new courseware and learning products for emerging markets. The Senior Development Editor, High School will partner with authors and the content team to develop and refine instructional approaches that strengthen BFW's presence across AP and high school markets. This role manages project schedules, budgets, handoffs, and cross-functional communication to keep content moving smoothly and efficiently throughout all phases of development and production.

The Senior Development Editor, High School coordinates internal teams, authors/contributors, vendors, and contractors so that deliverables stay on schedule and flow smoothly between stakeholders. Working in close partnership with Media Editors, Program Managers, Course Product Managers, Production partners, and others, the Senior Development Editor, High School ensures every component of a project comes together on time, within scope, and aligned with customer and learner needs.

Major responsibilities include, but are not limited to: 

  • Project Management: plan, schedule, and coordinate the elements of each assigned project, including content delivery, editing, market research and testing, permissions, photo research, and turnover to print and media production.
  • Editorial Work: Evaluate and edit content and direct authors and others to fulfill project plans to our standards; hire and manage contractors as needed.
  • Customer Focus: Engage in market and competitive research to ensure that each project is developed with a customer-centered and student engagement focus and strong market identity, consistent with the vision and quality of the brand.
  • Schedules: Create and implement content development schedules that result in achievement of target publication and live dates.
  • Efficiency and Costs: Be aware of budget limitations and always work toward more efficient and cost-effective processes.
  • Travel: Travel occasionally to conferences and to meet with authors and customers, or to gather market feedback.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree.
  • Minimum 4-5 years editorial experience or similar field.

  • Flexible outlook, growth mindset, ability to embrace change; enthusiastic about using new technology systems, AI, new processes, and new ways of working.

  • Attention to detail and commitment to accuracy, quality, and on-time delivery.

  • Deep commitment to developing inclusive content designed to reach and represent all learners.

  • Ability to oversee multiple tasks simultaneously, prioritizing tasks appropriately, staying organized, communicating progress, and meeting deadlines.

  • Familiarity and comfort with Google Suite and AI interfaces; willingness to continually learn new tools.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience managing in-house team members or contractors.
  • Experience in High School educational publishing and in working with the College Board’s course and exam descriptions.

Salary Range: $62,000 - $72,000/ year. 

    Exemption Status: Exempt     

    Physical Requirements:       

    Requires periods of close concentration; must be able to multi-task; must be able to travel occasionally; work overtime - more than 40 hours a week – regularly, as needed.     

    The position is eligible for remote employment, excluding the following locations: Alaska, Arkansas, Hawaii, Mississippi, South Dakota, West Virginia, Wyoming.
