Where the team fits in

The Software Developer sits within the Developer Line of Business. The Developer team works with marketing agencies, builders, project developers, and project marketers to promote their listings through a suite of world class display and classified media products across Australia’s favourite property websites and mobile apps, realestate.com.au. When you join the Developer team, you join a cross-functional group of high-achievers representing product, IT, sales and marketing, supported by PR, communications, HR, finance, legal – all the people you need to provide exceptional products and services to Australia’s developer property community. The team is responsible for ensuring the needs of developer partners are always at the forefront, as well as creating products our consumers love and customers’ value.

What the role is all about

• Designing, implementing, testing and deploying various software products
• Focusing on a wide range of technologies including Scala, Javascript and Ruby
• Contributing to the overall technical solution design
• Managing and maintaining existing systems in line with our product custodianship strategy
• Participating in engineering practices that produce testable, maintainable products to be proud of
• Knowledge sharing & mentoring other developers within the team and the wider REA community

Who we’re looking for

• Approximately 4-5 years of experience building reliable, scalable, complex web apps
• An in-depth knowledege of at least one programming language (OO or FP)
• Experience in or an appetite to learn functional programming in Scala
• Solid knowledge of common testing practices
• Hands on experience of software design patterns and best practices
• An understanding of common web and application architectures
• Open to learning other languages and frameworks that support our technical direction
• Understanding of software infrastructure, deployment practices and CI/CD
