Senior Developer, Data Catalog Management

How You Will Contribute:

As a Data Catalog Developer specializing in the Alation platform, you will play a pivotal role in the design, development, and implementation of data catalog solutions. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure that our data catalog initiatives meet business needs and drive data quality across the organization. Your expertise in data catalog development will be critical in enhancing our data management capabilities and supporting strategic decision-making.

Partner with Business Teams:

• Collaborate with data owners, stewards, and business leaders to gather requirements and define data catalog strategies that align with business objectives.
• Serve as a key technical resource between business units and IT teams, ensuring seamless integration of data catalog solutions with existing systems and processes.
• Provide guidance and best practices to business units regarding data modeling, data governance, and data catalog lifecycle management.
• Help drive user engagement, adoption and the continued design and configuration across the Alation data catalog program.

Project Execution:

• Develop and implement data catalog solutions on the Alation platform, ensuring adherence to best practices and industry standards.
• Develop technical specifications, design documents, and implementation plans for data catalog projects, ensuring timely delivery and high-quality outcomes.
• Effectively communicate technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences, ensuring alignment and understanding across teams.
• Responsible for system testing, ensuring effective resolution of defects, timely discussion around business issues, and appropriate interaction resources relevant to data and integration.

Metrics for Success:

• Collaborate with business and IT partners to define key performance indicators (KPIs) for data catalog initiatives, ensuring alignment with organizational goals.
• Data Quality Metrics: Establish metrics to measure the accuracy, consistency, and completeness of data within the catalog.
• Data Catalog Adoption Metrics: Track the utilization of data catalog solutions and their impact on business processes and decision-making.
• Stakeholder Feedback: Gather and analyze feedback from users to continually improve data catalog processes and solutions.

The Must Haves:

**Education:**

- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Management, or a related field.

**Experience:**

- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in data catalog development, specifically with the Alation platform, demonstrating a successful track record in delivering data catalog projects.

Functional Skills:

• Good understanding of data governance frameworks and methodologies, including data lineage, metadata management, MDM, Reference Data Management, and compliance with data privacy regulations (e.g., GDPR, CCPA).

• Strong understanding of data catalog and data dictionary principles and data management best practices.
• Experience in data quality management and data governance practices within an Alation environment.
• Experience in data querying, profiling, data cleansing, and data transformation processes.

Alation Technical Skills:

• Demonstrate skills as a Subject Matter Expert for the Alation platform.
• Expertise in configuring the Alation Data Model, data lineage, and metadata management.
• Proficient in working with Alation APIs.
• Experience in managing Reference Data Management (RDM), User Management, UI Config, handling workflows.
• Expertise in loading/exporting data into/from Alation and optimizing the processes.
• Expertise in the design, data modeling creation, and management of large datasets/data models.
• Hands-on experience with on-boarding metadata from various sources including SQL Server, Oracle, Azure cloud and others.
• Expert in SQL programming

General Skills:

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively convey technical concepts to diverse audiences.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a focus on data-driven decision-making.
• Experience with Agile project management methodologies and tools, with an understanding of iterative development processes.

Assets:

• Having additional experience in MDM space working on Reltio platform is a major plus as our team supports both platforms.
• Working knowledge of Cloud storage solutions, such as AWS S3 Bucket, Azure Cloud Storage
• Some experience of one or two programming languages like Java, Python, and JavaScript, and familiar with API protocols (HTTP/HTTPS) and data formats (JSON, XML)

Experience with data warehouses like Snowflake, and data visualizations tools like Power BI, Looker etc.
