The Role

Senior Product Designer – Industrial Design Focus (Hard Goods)

You’re an industrial designer who doesn’t just sketch pretty things—you bring them to life and get a team excited to do the same. You think in form, function, and feasibility. You lead brainstorms that actually spark ideas. You present concepts with clarity and conviction. You’re here to raise the bar.

At Uncommon Goods, we create joyful, design-forward objects—from clever kitchen tools to conversation-starting home goods. We’re looking for a Senior Product Designer with a strong industrial design background and creative leadership chops to take the reins on new product development—and inspire our design team while doing it.

You’ll lead original product design in our Hard Goods category, working cross-functionally with buying, creative, and sourcing teams to deliver exclusive, manufacturable, unmistakably “UG” products.

This hybrid role works on-site at our waterfront Brooklyn location 1 to 2 days a week, reporting to our Director of Product Development.  

What You’ll Own:

  • Concept, prototype, and develop exclusive products from idea to final production.
  • Lead brainstorms, inspire designers, and drive a strong creative culture.
  • Present concepts to merchandising and leadership teams with clarity and strategic rationale.
  • Partner with cross-functional stakeholders (buyers, sourcing, creative, ops) to ensure your designs are not just beautiful—but viable.
  • Oversee the full design process—from mood boards and sketching to CAD, specs, and pre-production approvals.
  • Maintain a sharp POV on trends, customer behavior, and commercial viability.

You’ll Thrive in This Role If You:

  • Have 7-10 years of experience in industrial design, consumer goods, or lifestyle product development.
  • Are fluent in CAD tools (SolidWorks, Rhino, or Fusion 360) and Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Have experience leading brainstorms, mentoring creatives, and pitching bold ideas to leadership.
  • Are a strong communicator—visually and verbally—with the ability to defend ideas and influence decisions.
  • Have a portfolio that shows full lifecycle design work: from sketch to shelf, with real-world production and impact.

Extra Credit For:

  • Experience managing or mentoring junior designers.
  • Working knowledge of manufacturing (overseas or domestic), packaging, and sourcing.
  • Passion for sustainability, values-based design, or storytelling through product.

This is a full-time salaried position with an annual base salary range of $100,000 - $115,000. This role is eligible for our annual performance bonus program.
