About Us
Dyson is a global technology company that sets out to solve the problems others ignore. We create machines that are different, better and more useful through inventive engineering, relentless testing and a refusal to accept conventional answers.
We are developing a confidential new product category and looking for a Senior Design Engineer who wants to help shape what comes next. This is an opportunity to work on unfamiliar problems, challenge assumptions and turn bold ideas into engineered products that can be made, tested and trusted.
About the Role
As a Senior Design Engineer in the Singapore Design Engineering team, you will help create a new product category from its earliest concepts through to production. You will design complex mechanical assemblies and product systems that are expected to work brilliantly, last reliably and meet Dyson’s standards for performance, quality and user experience.
You will work in a multi-disciplinary team of engineers, researchers, manufacturing specialists, operations teams, quality teams and external development partners to take ideas from sketch, prototype and test into robust production intent. The role calls for technical ownership, curiosity and the judgement to make clear decisions using evidence from analysis, prototyping and testing.
You will also have the opportunity to collaborate with our global engineering teams, working together to develop assembly-level details and manufacturing solutions. You will engage with our category and expert support teams to define design requirements and analyse potential design solutions.
As an influential Senior Design Engineer, you will serve as a role model for the Dyson values and contribute to fostering a high-performance culture within the organization.
Responsibilities include:
Take ownership of complex product assemblies and sub-systems from early concept to production, making sure they deliver on performance, safety, reliability, quality, cost and timing.
Translate ambiguous problems into clear design requirements, specifications and interfaces for interdependent systems and assemblies.
Create, evaluate and develop design concepts through analysis, prototyping, testing and data-led decision making.
Make technical risks visible early, build credible mitigation plans and drive issues to closure with pace and sound engineering judgement.
Build and learn from functional prototypes, using test results and engineering insight to improve performance, robustness and user experience.
Work closely with manufacturing, operations and supplier partners to create designs that are robust, scalable and ready for high-volume production.
Create and review 3D CAD, 2D drawings, tolerance stacks and engineering documentation that enable confident development, validation and manufacturing release.
Lead and contribute to design and technical reviews, explaining complex engineering problems clearly and recommending practical, evidence-based actions.
Guide and develop design engineers and graduates, sharing knowledge and helping the team build stronger engineering judgement.
About You
A degree in Mechanical Engineering, Product Design, Mechatronics Engineering, Science or an equivalent technical discipline.
4+ years of experience in product design and development, with a track record of turning complex technical challenges into engineered solutions.
Strong mechanical design experience across plastic, rubber, metal or other engineered materials, with practical understanding of DFM, DFA, GD&T and tolerance analysis.
Practical knowledge of 3D CAD, 2D engineering drawings, tolerance stack-up and design documentation for development and production release.
Experience defining and managing requirements, specifications, interfaces and design trade-offs throughout the development process.
Comfortable working in the unknown, making progress with incomplete information and bringing clarity to difficult engineering problems.
A hands-on, test-and-learn approach to design, using prototypes, data and iteration to improve product performance and robustness.
Creative and considered problem solving skills, with the ability to balance performance, user experience, cost, manufacturability, reliability and safety without losing sight of the user.
Knowledge and application of systems engineering principles, with an understanding of how mechanical design interacts with electronics, software, sensing, thermal, acoustic or fluid systems.
Strong communication skills, with the confidence to explain ideas, evidence and recommendations in a way that helps teams make better decisions.
Collaborative, resilient and proactive, with the ability to influence across disciplines and keep momentum in a fast-moving development environment.
Understanding of manufacturing processes, supplier development, industrial measurement methods and design validation would be advantageous.
A genuine passion for engineering, curiosity to keep learning and the drive to make products that are meaningfully better.

What We Do
At Dyson we are focused on solving the problems that others have ignored; solving them first using our technology and ingenuity. In order to achieve this we need to pioneer technologies that are different and authentic. This is the core of what we do and who we are. We must strive to create the future, every single day by developing new things, different things, things that go against the grain with a diverse and global team of ingenious minds. Dyson employs over 14,000 people and is present in more than 80 countries. And while we are growing fast we want Dyson to remain a start-up in spirit with the freedom of experimentation and learning, constantly reinventing our products as well as reinventing how we work, how we sell and how we support our owners. At the same time we are working through the James Dyson Foundation, James Dyson Award and Dyson Institute to inspire future engineers and pioneering a new approach to engineering education. Underlining everything we do in this diverse environment is the need to always show respect, supporting each other as one team to overcome whatever challenges we encounter. We drive empowerment, development and equality in an inclusive environment for our people around the world. The future doesn’t just happen, we look to make it happen, to achieve leaps through pioneering new ideas
