Join our growing R&D team in Niš as a Senior Design Engineer and help develop innovative automotive technologies at Johnson Electric, a global leader in motion solutions.

In this role, you will contribute to the development of Thermal Management Modules and subsystems for New Energy Vehicles (NEV), supporting the full product lifecycle from concept development through validation, industrialization, production launch, and series support. You will be responsible for design, simulation, validation, technical coordination, and problem-solving activities to achieve quality, cost, timing, and performance targets, while driving value engineering and cost optimization initiatives. In addition, you will provide technical guidance and mentoring to junior engineers, supporting knowledge sharing and capability development across the team.

Your responsibilities will be to:

  • Lead complex product design and development activities from concept through serial production

  • Define technical solutions, product architecture and engineering strategies

  • Prepare/review and approve engineering deliverables, CAD models and design documentation

  • Lead engineering calculations, simulations and technical investigations

  • Define validation strategies, validation requirements and acceptance criteria

  • Lead root cause analysis and resolution of complex technical issues

  • Drive DFMEA, risk assessment and product robustness activities

  • Lead Design for Manufacturing (DFM), Design for Assembly (DFA) and industrialization reviews

  • Act as primary technical interface with customers and suppliers

  • Support supplier evaluation and technical development activities

  • Drive cost reduction, value engineering and product optimization initiatives

  • Mentor and coach junior engineers through technical guidance, training and knowledge sharing

  • Contribute to engineering standards, best practices and technology roadmaps

Our requirements:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Automotive Engineering or a related engineering discipline

  • 5-10 years of experience in R&D development of complex mechatronic systems, preferably within the automotive industry

  • Advanced knowledge of engineering materials, manufacturing processes, joining technologies and product validation methods

  • Strong experience in CAD design, GD&T and tolerance stack-up analysis

  • Experience with thermal, structural and CFD/FEM simulations

  • Strong understanding of industrialization, production launch and series support activities

  • Proven experience in technical leadership and cross-functional project coordination

  • Experience mentoring and developing junior engineers

  • Fluent English communication skills

  • Excellent analytical, communication and stakeholder management skills

Skills Required

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Automotive Engineering, or a related discipline
  • 5-10 years of R&D experience developing complex mechatronic systems
  • Automotive industry experience
