About the role

PandaDoc is hiring a Senior Design Engineer to sit at the intersection of design and engineering in the Growth track at PandaDoc. Our team of product designers use Cursor and Claude every day to explore flows, prototype interactions and pressure-test ideas. What we’re missing is someone who can take those explorations from working prototype to production-grade React in days, not sprints - and in doing so, change how Growth decides what to build.
In an AI-first track, the speed and fidelity of prototyping is no longer just a craft question - it's how we validate. A prototype real enough to put in front of customers, instrumented and shippable, is how we earn conviction and how we kill weak ideas early. You'll sit inside that loop: compressing the distance from an idea to a validated decision, and then to a shipped surface. Your prototypes won't just illustrate a direction - they'll help us choose it.

The enablement comes with it. You'll build the operations, patterns, and prompt libraries that let our designers move at your pace, and set the bar for what "good" looks like when shipping with AI.

You will be leading a change in how we work. We expect you to be opinionated, visible, and generous with your craft. This role’s output is measured both in what you ship and in how you enable the rest of the team.

What you’ll do

  • Prototype AI-native ideas in code, fast. Take a concept from Figma or an LLM conversation to a working production-grade React code in days, owning layout, interaction, motion, accessibility, and performance;
  • Ship production-grade Growth surfaces. Own key surfaces end to end: layout, interaction, motion, accessibility, performance;
  • Own the quality ceiling. AI is raising the floor on execution; your job is the ceiling — the judgment, taste, and interaction craft AI can't supply. Define what "good" looks like when shipping with AI, through reviews, examples, and reusable patterns others can lean on;
  • Extend our AI-enabled tools and processes. Improve our processes, patterns, and prompt libraries so the rest of the team can move at your pace;
  • Set the quality bar for AI-assisted output. Partner with design leadership to define what ‘good’ looks like when shipping with AI — through reviews, examples, and reusable patterns others can lean on; 
  • Trailblaze the Design Engineer function at PandaDoc. Own work end to end, from problem framing to launch, and shape how this role operates as the first hire in it;
  • Measure your impact two ways: what you ship, and how much faster the team ships because of you.

What you need

  • Strong experience across both design and front-end engineering, with a portfolio of shipped interfaces or widely-used components you can point us to;
  • Fluency in React, TypeScript, modern CSS, and one animation library (Framer Motion, React Spring, or similar);
  • Active, opinionated use of Cursor and Claude Code in your daily workflow, with a clear point of view on how to get production-quality output;
  • An eye for design and engineering workflows — you notice where the team is losing time and build the tool, pattern, or process that fixes it;
  • Comfort building from zero, with the judgment to set direction when there's no template to follow.
