A Day in The Life Of:
As an Automation Engineer, you will play an integral role in all aspects of new equipment development, including Initial Feasibility, Proof of Concept, Proof of Principle, Procurement, Mechanical/Electrical/Pneumatic/Software Design, Technology Development & Advancement, Vendor Management, and Project Management.
You will utilize CAD modeling, 3D printing, augmented reality, simulated capacity planning, and other computer-aided design (CAD) software engineering methodologies, theories, and research techniques to investigate and resolve technical challenges, thereby developing best-in-class equipment for our medical device product lines.
You will lead and support teams focused on technology process innovation, with a strong emphasis on quality improvement, cost reduction, enhanced reliability, and the development of advanced automated and semi-automated systems.
Your expertise will be applied to assess architecture and hardware constraints as you prepare design specifications, conduct analyses, and provide recommendations for technical project planning.
Collaboration with cross-functional and cross-site teams will be essential as you define, execute, and deliver requirements for new equipment development.
You will contribute to process development, characterization, and validation activities to facilitate the introduction of new equipment.
Additionally, you will specify materials, equipment, and supplies necessary for project completion, and may assess vendor capabilities to ensure they meet product or service requirements.
Participation in the Automation Community of Practice will be encouraged to share best practices and foster knowledge creation within Medtronic's automation community.
You will also support the establishment and advancement of global automation standards across Medtronic.
Key Skills & Experience
Qualified person to Degree level 8 in Engineering/Science or a related discipline.
Minimum of 7 years relevant experience or advanced degree with a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience.
Expert knowledge of PLC’s with extensive programming and diagnosis experience in a manufacturing environment
Proven track record of leading the full life cycle of introducing automated equipment from concept generation to commissioning & debug, with experience in feasibility and design stages
Knowledge and experience specifying and validating vision systems: detection, measurement, OCR, OCV.
Proven experience working with several multi-national automation vendors and best in class automated process technology.
The candidate should have demonstrated experience working in a role that involves expertise in various fields and disciplines, such as technical knowledge and training, as well as effectively sharing information and communicating with team members and management. The candidate should be able to adapt to different roles and work effectively in different areas of the business.
Proven ability to work effectively and proactively on cross-functional and cross-site teams, as well as leading and mentoring teams
Experienced project manager with a proven track record in delivering innovative equipment designs on time and on budget, preferably with a PM qualification.
You’re an excellent problem solver who can translate complexity into simplicity and articulate crisply and clearly.
Creates and communicates clear strategy/plans, with a demonstrated ability to make sound judgments.
Passionate about understanding the workings of complex systems and processes, and bringing this passion to work.
Excellent communicator both in writing and speaking.
