Senior Database Management

Role Overview:

We are seeking an experienced Subject Matter Expert (SME) with a robust background in Applications and Infrastructure management. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience in designing, implementing, and maintaining databases, with a primary focus on performance optimization, troubleshooting, high availability, disaster recovery, and automation. With deep expertise in Open Database technologies including PostgreSQL, MongoDB, and Redis, with additional expertise in containerization and orchestration tools like Docker and Kubernetes.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Database Maintenance & Administration:
• Perform routine maintenance tasks including backup, recovery, patching, and performance tuning.
• Conduct standard database maintenance and administration tasks with attention to detail.
• Monitor database activity, health, and performance, using database management system software and tools to collect performance statistics.
• Optimize database performance, plan for forecast resource needs, and recommend corrective actions.
• Ensure database high availability, replication, failover, and clustering.
• Develop and configure tools to automate database administration tasks, enhancing efficiency and minimizing downtime.
• Maintain procedures and documentation for databases, ensuring compliance with standards for definition, security, and integrity of database objects.
• Implement disaster recovery strategies and maintain data integrity across environments.

1. Incident Management & Troubleshooting:

Handle critical escalations and complex troubleshooting for database issues.Diagnose performance bottlenecks, slow queries, deadlocks, and replication issues.Collaborate with DevOps, infrastructure, and application teams for RCA (Root Cause Analysis).

1. Backup, Recovery & Disaster Recovery:

Design and implement backup strategies and disaster recovery plans.Ensure data integrity, redundancy, and compliance with RPO/RTO requirements.

1. Database Design & Implementation:
• Design and architect scalable, high-performance database systems for enterprise applications.
• Implement database schemas, indexing, and optimization techniques to improve efficiency.
• Manage database configuration, including installing and upgrading software, and maintaining relevant documentation.

1. Containerization & Orchestration:
• Manage databases using Docker and Kubernetes to ensure scalability and resilience.
• Optimize containerized database solutions for performance optimization.
• Implement CI/CD pipelines for automated deployment and maintenance of databases within containerized environments.

1. Collaboration & Communication:
• Work closely with application teams to ensure seamless integration and optimal performance by understanding business logic, data models, and query patterns.
• Optimize database schema and queries for application performance improvement.
• Provide guidance on database best practices for developers and architects.
• Collaborate with team members to address user needs, providing timely issue resolution and guidance.
• Interact with customers, suppliers, and partners to deliver effective database maintenance.
• Make substantive contributions to discussions, planning, and implementation of database management improvements.

1. Monitoring & Reporting:
• Continuously monitor database performance statistics and generate reports to communicate findings and recommendations.
• Identify and investigate complex issues, proposing effective corrective actions.
• Utilize monitoring tools and frameworks to ensure proactive database management.
• Automate patching, backups, and deployments using scripts (Bash/Python) and configuration management tools (Ansible, Terraform).

1. Security & Compliance
• Implement database security best practices, including access controls, encryption, and auditing.
• Ensure compliance with GDPR, HIPAA, SOC2, and other regulatory standards.

1. Documentation & Reporting:
• Maintain comprehensive documentation of database architectures, processes, maintenance plans, and troubleshooting guides.
• Prepare reports detailing system health, performance metrics, and improvement plans.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

• Database Technologies: Deep knowledge of PostgreSQL, MongoDB, and Redis.
• Containerization & Orchestration: Hands-on experience with Docker and Kubernetes for deploying and managing databases.
• Application & Infrastructure Integration: Strong understanding of application and infrastructure interoperability, microservices, API interactions, and application workflows.
• Performance Tuning & Optimization: Proven experience in performance tuning, query optimization, system monitoring, and caching mechanisms.
• Maintenance Automation: Expertise in scripting and developing tools for automated maintenance tasks.
• Analytical & Problem-Solving Skills: Excellent troubleshooting capabilities with the ability to recommend effective solutions.
•  High Availability & Disaster Recovery: Backup, failover, replication, and multi-region deployments.
• Security & Compliance: Database encryption, access controls, auditing, GDPR/HIPAA compliance.
• Collaboration & Communication: Ability to work effectively within cross-functional teams and present technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
• Documentation: Strong documentation skills for architectures, procedures, and troubleshooting guides.
