The Role:
As a Senior Database Engineer, you will be responsible for designing, managing, and optimizing our cloud infrastructure related to data storage strategies. This includes overseeing schema manipulation, backup and restoration processes, retention strategies, managing diverse database technologies, and working with tools such as Kafka, Cassandra, and Elasticsearch. Additionally, the role includes managing blob storage operations, ensuring data security compliance, to keep our infrastructure highly efficient, scalable, and secure.
Responsibilities:
- Create and maintain data backup, restoration, and retention processes to ensure data integrity and regulatory compliance.
- Oversee blob storage operations to ensure efficient data storage and access.
- Collaborate with the DevOps team to build and maintain robust, scalable, and cost-effective data infrastructure.
- Partner with cross-functional teams to establish best practices for various database technologies, including but not limited to SQL, NoSQL, Cassandra, and Elasticsearch.
- Monitor and maintain data streaming platforms like Kafka, ensuring consistent performance and reliability.
- Diagnose and resolve database-related issues while proactively implementing solutions to prevent future occurrences.
- Ensure data systems are secure, compliant, and optimized for efficient data access and utilization.
- Participate in an on-call rotation to support urgent issues.
Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
- Demonstrated experience in roles such as Data Specialist, Data Engineer, or similar, with a focus on cloud data infrastructure.
- Solid experience in database management, including schema design, optimization, backup, and restoration.
- Practical experience with cloud platforms (e.g., Azure, AWS, GCP), including managing data storage and blob storage operations.
- Expertise in database technologies such as SQL, NoSQL, Cassandra, and Elasticsearch.
- Experience working with data streaming platforms like Kafka.
- Familiarity with DevOps principles, infrastructure as code, and CI/CD tools.
- Understanding of data security compliance requirements and best practices.
- Experience monitoring and optimizing cloud infrastructure costs.
- Effective problem-solving skills and a collaborative approach for optimizing data infrastructure.
- Excellent communication skills and a team-oriented approach to collaboration.
