Job Purpose
We are seeking an experienced and innovative Senior Database Administrator (DBA) to join our ICT team. In this role, you will be responsible for the architecture, design, implementation, and maintenance of database systems within our technology stack.
You will ensure high levels of data availability, security, and integrity while delivering scalable and high-performance database solutions. The ideal candidate is analytical, tech-savvy, and skilled in modern database technologies, with a strong focus on performance optimization and data security.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and implement efficient database solutions, frameworks, and models.
- Analyze business requirements to determine database structural needs.
- Develop and maintain database architecture documentation and reports.
- Ensure compliance with internal policies and external regulatory standards.
- Manage data migration from legacy systems to modern platforms.
- Monitor database performance, troubleshoot issues, and implement improvements.
- Optimize database systems for performance, scalability, and reliability.
- Implement robust database security measures and backup/recovery strategies.
- Develop scripts and tools to enhance database performance and storage efficiency.
- Maintain development, testing, and production environments.
- Perform database tuning, debugging, and issue resolution.
- Create and maintain data dictionaries and technical documentation.
- Support database users and provide guidance on database usage and migration.
- Ensure best practices in data storage, archiving, and disaster recovery.
- Provide on call/24/7 support when required.
- Stay updated with emerging trends and best practices in database engineering.
Educational Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Systems, Engineering, Telecommunications, or a related field.
- Professional certifications in databases (e.g., Oracle OCA/OCP – 11g or higher) are required.
Required Skills & Experience
- Minimum of
5 years’ experience in database engineering and administration. - Proven experience as a Database Developer/Administrator working with:
- Oracle, MySQL, PostgreSQL, Microsoft SQL Server, and MongoDB.
- A portfolio of database development projects is an added advantage.
- Hands-on experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Microsoft Azure, and Google Cloud Platform.
- Experience working with cloud data warehouses, including Snowflake, BigQuery, Amazon Redshift, and Azure Synapse Analytics.
- Familiarity with big data technologies within the Hadoop ecosystem, including Spark, Kafka, Hive, HDFS, and HBase.
- Experience with containerization and orchestration tools such as Docker, Kubernetes, OpenShift, AKS, and GKE.
- Proven experience deploying and maintaining microservices-based applications.
- Experience with NoSQL databases, including MongoDB, Cassandra, and Neo4j.
- Strong expertise in database technologies, architecture, and performance optimization.
- Solid understanding of database security best practices, backup, and recovery strategies.
- Proficiency in version control systems (Git), including branching and merging strategies.
- Strong programming and scripting skills in languages such as Python, Java, Go, Node.js, Bash, Ruby, and PowerShell.
- Experience with CI/CD tools including Jenkins, GitLab CI, CircleCI, Sauce Labs, and Nexus.
- Good understanding of cloud networking concepts, including load balancers, application gateways, DNS, virtual networks, and firewalls.
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of virtualization technologies (e.g., VMware vSphere, ESX, vCenter).
- Familiarity with Microsoft technologies: Active Directory, LDAP, IIS, DFS
- Understanding of storage systems: SAN, NAS, Direct Attached Storage
- Interest in cybersecurity, authentication, and authorization systems.
- Experience designing cloud-based network architectures.
