Job Summary:
The Microsoft SQL Server Database Administrator (DBA) is responsible for the installation, configuration, maintenance, and performance tuning of Microsoft SQL Server databases. The DBA ensures the availability, integrity, and security of data, supports database development, and provides technical expertise to optimize database environments.
Key Responsibilities:
- Install, configure, and upgrade Microsoft SQL Server database servers and related products.
- Monitor database performance and implement changes to improve performance and reliability.
- Perform regular database maintenance tasks such as backups, restores, integrity checks, and index optimization.
- Manage database security by defining and enforcing access controls and permissions.
- Troubleshoot and resolve database-related issues, including performance bottlenecks, deadlocks, and connectivity problems.
- Develop and maintain database documentation, including data models, configurations, and procedures.
- Collaborate with development teams to design and implement database schemas, stored procedures, triggers, and functions.
- Plan and execute database migrations, upgrades, and patching activities with minimal downtime.
- Implement disaster recovery plans and ensure data availability and business continuity.
- Monitor and manage database storage, capacity planning, and growth forecasting.
- Automate routine database tasks using scripts and tools.
- Stay current with new SQL Server features, best practices, and industry trends.
- Provide support for database-related audits and compliance requirements.
- Familiarity with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure is a plus.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
- Proven experience as a Microsoft SQL Server DBA or similar role.
- Strong knowledge of SQL Server architecture, installation, configuration, and administration.
- Proficiency in writing complex SQL queries, stored procedures, and T-SQL scripting.
- Experience with database backup, recovery, and disaster recovery techniques.
- Familiarity with performance tuning and optimization tools and techniques.
- Understanding of database security principles and best practices.
- Experience with monitoring tools such as SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS), SQL Profiler, and third-party monitoring solutions.
- Knowledge of Windows Server operating systems and networking fundamentals.
Preferred Qualifications:
- At least a Bachelors degree with 4-5 years working experience.
- Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate or Microsoft Certified Solutions Expert (MCSE) in Data Management and Analytics.
- Experience with cloud-based SQL Server deployments (e.g., Azure SQL Database, AWS RDS).
- Familiarity with automation tools such as PowerShell.
- Experience with other database platforms and data integration tools.
- Flexible to provide support after working hours, weekends and/or Wilayah Persekutuan public holidays when required as the team covers global support.
- Business support hours will start at 7am KL time.
- Able to commit to hybrid working arrangement, with a minimum of 3 days in office
