As a Senior Database Administrator, you will play a crucial role in designing, optimising and managing a diverse range of databases across the Azure, GCP and on-prem environments. You’ll collaborate closely with Infrastructure, Application Services,DevOps and Architecture teams to integrate robust database solutions that meet both business demands and operational requirements. In addition to engineering new solutions, you will play a crucial role in ensuring high availability, scalability and performance especially during peak trading periods.

Here is a taster of what you can expect in this role:

Design and build database patterns spanning technologies like SQL Server, Azure SQL DB, Azure SQL MI, Azure PostgreSQL, MongoDB Atlas and Oracle.

Work closely with the architecture team to implement database standards and patterns in new application designs.

Work with DevOps to deploy database solutions via Infrastructure as Code (IaC).

Develop a database roadmap in collaboration with the Cloud Platforms and Services owner.

Create a database lifecycle management framework to ensure all databases are regularly patched and kept up-to-date.

Performance tune the fleet of databases to ensure they meet the needs of applications and business functions, helping achieve critical business objectives.

Ensure databases are secure by design, implementing security benchmarks and data encryption where required.

Develop and maintain a robust backup strategy to ensure restore and recovery capabilities for all databases to deal with any disaster scenarios.

Ensure databases are highly available and scalable and can handle peak trading periods seamlessly.

Collaborate with major incident management and other key stakeholders to efficiently resolve production issues, ensuring the stability, reliability and performance of business-critical applications.
Qualifications
Now let’s talk about you:

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or a related field.

5+ years managing databases in cloud and on-prem environments (SQL Server, Azure SQL DB, Azure SQL MI, Azure PostgreSQL, MongoDB Atlas and Oracle)

Strong platform experience supporting databases in Azure, GCP and on-prem environments.
-
Experience provisioning database services on Azure, GCP and on-prem environments via Infrastructure as Code (IaC).
-
Prior experience working with database tool sets such as SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS), pgAdmin and MongoDB Compass and monitoring tools like Solarwinds, Azure Monitor and Dynatrace is desirable.

Hands-on knowledge of GCP PaaS DB services like Cloud SQL is a plus.
-
Prior experience in managing and on-demand reporting of the database licences across the fleet, ensuring compliance with the enterprise contracts at play.

Strong troubleshooting and production support skills – With the ability to remain calm under pressure to identify and resolve complex issues in a timely manner.

Ability to produce management reports and dashboards related to (not limited to) fleet management, backup statuses, software versions and overall database health.
- Prior experience in retail is highly valued – understanding retail apps and how they run is key.

Strong knowledge of database design principles, IaC and industry best practices.

Any Database certifications on Azure and GCP would be a plus.

Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.

Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively across teams.
