We're growing our team in Ireland and looking for a Senior Data Scientist to help solve complex pharmacy and healthcare challenges. You'll turn messy, high-volume data into scalable analytics and decision-support tools-partnering closely with stakeholders to drive measurable business impact.
In this role, you'll partner with pharmacy business teams to identify opportunities, shape the analytics roadmap, and deliver actionable insights using statistical methods, predictive analytics, and data visualisation.
Careers with Optum offer flexible work arrangements and individuals who live and work in the Republic of Ireland will have the opportunity to split their monthly work hours between our Dublin or Letterkenny office and telecommuting from a home-based office in a hybrid work model.
What You'll Do:
  • Deliver analytic solutions that support decision-making for UnitedHealthcare Pharmacy
  • Partner with multiple lines of business to understand needs, translate them into clear problem statements, and deliver fit-for-purpose solutions
  • Solve high-visibility, high-complexity problems using solid domain knowledge and statistical thinking
  • Build scalable data and analytics solutions for core business functions
  • Develop forecasts and predictive models to estimate the impact of business strategies
  • Analyse diverse, complex datasets and communicate insights that influence business direction
  • Use a range of approaches (predictive analytics, issue detection, trend analysis, visualisation) to address priority questions

You will be rewarded and recognized for your performance in an environment that will challenge you and give you clear direction on what it takes to succeed in your role, as well as providing development for other roles you may be interested in.
What you'll bring:
If you don't meet every single requirement, don't let that hold you back - we're just as excited about potential as we are about qualifications and experience, and you could be exactly who we're looking for.
  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (analytics, mathematics, economics, business, statistics, engineering, finance) or equivalent experience
  • Proven experience in data analytics or data science; ideally with financial or healthcare-related data (e.g., pharmaceuticals, medical claims)
  • Proven experience working with messy data, identifying data quality issues, and applying imputation techniques where appropriate
  • Demonstrated solid ability to analyse and interpret diverse, complex datasets
  • Demonstrated data manipulation across structured and unstructured sources (relational/non-relational databases, CSVs, APIs, text, Excel, etc.)
  • Demonstrated proficiency in SQL and at least one scripting language (Python or R)
  • Proven stakeholder management experience, forming effective partnerships across teams
  • Demonstrated excellent written and verbal communication skills, able to present ideas clearly and concisely

Other useful skills and experience include:
  • Master's and/or PhD in a relevant quantitative discipline
  • Proven experience with visualisation tools such as Excel, Tableau, Power BI, or Qlik
  • Proven exposure to cloud-based data/analytics platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, Snowflake, Databricks)
  • Proven healthcare experience, especially drug pricing

What We Offer:
  • Opportunities for professional development
  • Inclusive and supportive team culture
  • Key benefits: Private health insurance, wellness programs, matching pension contribution, lunch provided by the company, training opportunities, employee donations matching and others

Please note you must currently be eligible to work and remain indefinitely without any restrictions in the country to which you are making an application. Proof will be required to support your application.
