At Catawiki, every day brings the extraordinary! Whether it’s Daniel Ricciardo’s Formula 1 Car, a Woolly Mammoth’s Skeleton, Lady Gaga's Jumpsuit or Usain Bolt’s running shoe, we encounter exceptional objects every day.
We’re a one-of-a-kind marketplace for buying and selling special objects. Each week, more than 110,000 unique items are auctioned, all carefully curated by our passionate in-house experts.
Having sold over 25 million unique objects, our mission is to become the world’s most popular destination for special objects. As a growing, diverse and sustainable scale-up, we proudly live by three core values. If these values resonate with you, we’d love to explore how you can join us.
- Taking ownership and driving impact
- Being open to change and feedback
- Being passionate about our mission and our customers.
With thousands of active lots every day, hundreds of thousands of daily bids, millions of users, and billions of events, the Catawiki platform generates vast amounts of data. We collect and store this data, and use it extensively to build a better company by making smarter decisions. The Data Science & Insights team plays a central role in that.
We are looking for a Senior Data Scientist - Product Insights to work with our Product teams and leverage data to identify user journey opportunities and measure the impact of our product features.
You will be part of the Data Science & Insights team helping us make sense of our data, finding actionable insights and creating self-service opportunities by combining data from multiple sources and working closely together with your colleagues in other departments.
In this role, no two days will be the same: you will find product opportunities, design and analyse A/B tests, uncover trends in user behaviour, communicate about the impact of a new initiative or enhance the reliability of our data pipelines. Whatever the task, you’ll play a pivotal role in shaping Catawiki’s product solutions and influencing our stakeholders.
- Own analytics for a broad product area – At Catawiki, you’ll take full ownership of a major part of the platform. This could mean leading analytics for all buyer-facing features, all seller-facing experiences, or everything related to fulfilment of our orders. You’ll build strong partnerships with stakeholders and proactively identify opportunities by deeply understanding Catawiki’s user behaviour.
- Turn data into insights and recommendations – You’ll go beyond tracking metrics—you’ll define and refine key success measures, uncover trends, and translate data into clear recommendations. Your insights will help shape Product decisions, flag opportunities, and drive the strategy forward. Through dashboards and reports, you’ll make sure the right information is always at hand to guide the business.
- Drive advanced product analytics at scale (including GenAI) – You’ll use methods like regression analysis, causal inference, and A/B testing to understand user behaviour, uncover actionable insights, and measure the impact of new features. You’ll also help define how we evaluate GenAI-powered features by setting up offline benchmarks and online measurement to track quality, performance, drift, and user impact over time.
- Practical data leader – You have a strong quantitative background and 6+ years of experience in data science or analytics, ideally in an online company. You’re comfortable owning complex projects and influencing stakeholders with recommendations tied to measurable product impact (e.g., conversion, retention, engagement).
- Advanced technical skills – You're highly proficient in SQL and experienced in writing code to transform data into insights, whether in Python, R, or another language. You can handle large datasets, optimize data pipelines, and work with tools like Looker Studio, Tableau, Power BI, and data transformation tools like dbt or Dataform.
- Deep statistical expertise – You have a strong grasp of statistics and apply advanced techniques like regression analysis, causal inference, time series modeling, and hypothesis testing to extract meaningful insights and drive impact.
- Web and app analytics – You have experience with tracking tools like Google Analytics (GA) and Google Tag Manager (GTM), and can design, implement, and validate measurement strategies.
- Experimentation and impact analysis – You have hands-on experience designing and evaluating A/B tests and other experiments, ensuring robust methodologies that lead to actionable insights.
- Proactive and entrepreneurial mindset – You take ownership, solve problems autonomously, and drive initiatives forward—even when it means stepping outside your comfort zone.
- Strong communicator and mentor – You work effectively with leadership, engineers, and product teams, translating complex data insights into clear recommendations. You also enjoy mentoring other data scientists and fostering a data-driven culture.
