Summary Generated by Built In
Help transform the future of British Army training through the power of data.
We're looking for a Senior Data Scientist who has applied data science in the real world, working with stakeholders to solve meaningful business or operational challenges, not just building models in isolation.
Technical skills matter, but we're equally interested in how you think, collaborate and approach problems.

Job title:

Senior Data Scientist

Job Description:

🕒 Permanent role - 37.5 hours a week
📍 Hybrid role with 2 or 3 days a week in Warminster

🔐 Due to the nature of this role, you must be eligible for UK Security Clearance at BPSS level.

What you’ll be doing

  • Work directly with stakeholders to understand problems, challenge assumptions and identify opportunities.
  • Turn complex operational questions into practical data science solutions.
  • Apply analytics, statistics and machine learning to generate meaningful insights and recommendations.
  • Build models, analytical products and visualisations that support decision-making.
  • Communicate findings clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Collaborate across multidisciplinary teams while retaining the freedom to explore problems in depth.
  • Operate confidently in environments where the answer is not always obvious.
  • Champion evidence-based decision-making and help grow a culture of curiosity, learning and continuous improvement.

What we’re looking for

We're looking for someone who:

  • Is naturally curious and enjoys tackling difficult real-world challenges.
  • Has experience with complex, large-scale data in mission critical contexts.
  • Wants to understand the people, processes and decisions behind the data.
  • Has experience applying data science to solve genuine business or operational problems.
  • Can build credibility with stakeholders and communicate complex ideas simply.
  • Is comfortable working independently, taking ownership and navigating ambiguity.
  • Enjoys collaborating with others and contributing to a supportive, high-performing team.
  • Can move comfortably between stakeholder conversations and hands-on technical work.
  • Is motivated by delivering measurable outcomes rather than building models for their own sake.
  • Enjoys testing a hypothesis, iteration, experimentation and prototyping
  • Can comfortably translate results in non-technical language, while being also able to defend the maths behind the models

Essential Skills/Experience/Qualifications

  • Strong practical experience in data science, statistics or advanced analytics.
  • Experience using Python, R, SQL and relevant analytical or machine learning techniques.
  • A track record of translating analytical findings into actionable recommendations and decisions.

Desirable Skills/Experience/Qualifications

  • Knowledge and experience of collective training
  • Knowledge of the military/Army
