Senior Data Scientist 

Position Description 

Qiagen Romania (Ingenuity Systems) is a group of creative, energetic people helping life science researchers understand the biological mechanisms that cause human disease. Key Responsibilities 

Model Development: Design, develop, and deploy machine learning models, encompassing traditional ML, as well as DL and LLMs. 

Knowledge Graph Implementation: Utilize knowledge graphs to represent and query structured biological data, enabling relationship discovery, and reasoning over gene-drug-disease interactions. 

Software Engineering: Write well-documented, extensible software code that is easy to maintain, and that adheres to generally accepted programming standards and OOP practices. 

Data Integration: Integrate heterogeneous data sources, such as gene expression profiles, pathway data, gene metadata, and others, to draw insights and create representations for AI analysis. 

Collaboration: Work cross-functionally with bioinformatics experts and software engineers to align AI solutions with customer requests and our company’s strategic goals 

Ethical AI: Ensure transparent reporting of AI methodologies and limitations to maintain public trust, addressing risks like model bias, data security, and intellectual property. 

Position Requirements 

  • +5 years working as a Data Scientist, with a proven track record in machine learning and AI-driven projects. 

  • Proficiency in Python, R, and SQL for data analysis and model development 

  • Strong understanding of ML algorithms and inferential statistics 

  • Expertise in data preprocessing, feature engineering, and model evaluation techniques 

  • APIs designing, OOP concepts, design patterns 

  • Source control and issue tracking systems 

  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills. 

  • Strong communication skills to collaborate with technical and non-technical stakeholders. 

  • Ability to document methods and processes clearly 

  • Comfortable in a client-facing role 

Nice to have 

  • Developed full data-focused applications to analyze & process data 

  • Worked with biological data (e.g., gene expression profiles, pathways, gene metadata, etc.) 

  • Proficiency in graph-based analysis and network modeling, including experience with tools like NetworkX, Neo4j, or similar 

  • Research experience in bioinformatics, AI, or drug discovery 

  • Experience working with LLMs, vector DBs, RAG systems
