Job Description
The Team
SEEK Pass is a trusted digital passport used by over 3 million people to manage and share their verified identity, credentials, and documents. We aim to integrate across the HR ecosystem to provide more value, security and convenience for individuals and organisations in employment-related processes.
Our primary use case today is helping job seekers to stand out on SEEK by pre-verifying their qualifications, licences and other credentials so that employers can shortlist them with confidence and speed. We operate as a distinct cross-functional business unit, with integrations into SEEK’s job marketplaces across Asia-Pacific.

About the role:
Our teams build products and solutions for internal and external customers across SEEK Pass and the wider SEEK Group. A Senior Data Scientist is a mixture of a Research Leader, a Machine Learning Engineer, and a Solutions Architect. Successful performance in this role will be demonstrated through leadership, adoption of innovative technologies, ability to develop full cycle AI solutions which will support SEEK Pass document verification and validation efforts. Further, the successful candidate will be expected to demonstrate capacity to improve the business value by AI adoption and stay up to date with emerging techniques in natural language processing, computer vision, machine learning and be deeply involved in a culture of continual improvement and collaboration.
Key Accountabilities
Build
- Propose new solutions and evolve existing ones to be used by product features that relies on AI.
- Design and conduct online and offline evaluations to compare variants of AI-based product features.
- Become technical reference to the team on core AI related topics.
- Lead the team to delivery AI projects that help the business to achieve their strategic priorities.
- Break-down the problems and propose directions to overcome obstacles.
- Research, build, deploy and maintain integrated AI solutions.
- Work with Strategy, Product, Operation, Commercial and Software Development teams to address a variety of challenging business problems.
Execute
- Collaborate with teams from Asia and Pacific partners.
- Strengthen secure coding practises and tooling within team.
- Form clear data addressable problem statements from current business problems.
- Gather, validate, and understand data relevant to the problem statement.
- Design and build data transformation pipelines and machine learning algorithms to solve the business problem.
- Work with product management and other business partners to review and iterate data products to fit emerging market trends.
- Evangelise appropriate ML methods and explain them, and their associated benefits and limitations to team members from Engineering and Strategy

Qualifications
Essential Skills and Experience
- A MSc or PhD qualification in Computer Science, Computational Physics, Mathematics, Statistics, or a related field.
- 6 years of experience in Data Science
- Consistently write effective, testable, readable, and secure code in one of the following programming languages: Python, Go, Scala, C/C++, or Java
- Strong background in: Algorithms and data structures, Machine Learning, Computer Vision
- Sound experience using modern data science practices.
- Experience with Data Modeling and Machine Learning algorithms.
- Experience applying continuous integration and continuous deployment (CI/CD).
- Commercial experience with agile methodologies (e.g., Kanban, Lean, Scrum).
- Commercial experience working in multi-functional technology teams.
- Proactively manages professional growth and identifies learning opportunities.
- Experience giving and receiving effective feedback and contributing to others’ learning.
Desirable skills and experience
- Ability to perform data exploratory analysis for proof of concepts and to Communicate the results to a diverse audience.
- Uses data to support decision-making.
- Practice with:
- Computer Vision processing libraries (e.g., OpenCV, YOLO, Rekognition)
- Relational database such as MySQL or PostgreSQL.
- Amazon Web Services (e.g. EC2, S3, VPC, SQS, SageMaker).
- Distributed processing framework such as Hadoop or Spark.
- Container package such as Docker.
- Deployment tools, such as Ansible, Terraform and Chef.
- Knowledge in:
- Computer Vision
- Deep Learning
- Natural Language Processing
- Optimisation
- Ability to adapt quickly and manage an environment of rapid change and development.
Other Skills and Experience:
- Comfortable in a start-up environment with ambiguity, minimum viable products, and rapid iteration & learning
- Experience integrating with third-party systems.
- Experience working with encrypted and highly sensitive data.
