We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Reinforcement Learning Data Scientist with experience in Reinforcement Learning from Human Feedback (RLHF) and a focus on Generative AI to join our diverse team.

As a Data Scientist focusing on Reinforcement Learning - Human Feedback you will play a key role in developing, innovating and improving our key Gen-AI platforms and solutions.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Bring your background in reinforcement learning, deep learning, and generative modeling, with a passion for pushing the boundaries of AI research and development.
  • Research, design, and implement pioneering reinforcement learning algorithms with a focus on generative AI applications, including RLHF.
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest advancements in reinforcement learning, generative modeling, RLHF, and AI technologies.
  • Interpret available internal and external data resources to develop and deliver information solutions, including analytical information.
  • Apply creative problem solving and inter-departmental networking to address data and information needs across the enterprise.
  • Share proven techniques with peers through coaching and mentoring around core methodologies, patterns, standards and processes.
  • Through a clear understanding of the assigned business area, apply technical skills to access and extract data from diverse sources residing on multiple platforms and implement large, complex data models and information solutions by combining, synthesizing and structuring data from various data sources.
  • Drive innovation by exploring new experimentation methods and statistical techniques that could sharpen or speed up our product decision-making processes


Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

  • Bachelor's degree in Data Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Operations Research, Computer Science, Econometrics or related field
  • 4-5 years of professional experience
  • Solid background in reinforcement learning, deep learning, and generative modeling, with experience in RLHF.
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, TensorFlow, and PyTorch.
  • Experience with popular reinforcement learning frameworks and libraries (e.g., OpenAI Gym, RLlib)
  • At least 3 years of hands-on experience doing data science work
  • Ability to write complex SQL queries
  • Statistical knowledge and intuition
  • Machine learning experience
  • Experience with distributed databases and query languages like Hive or Spark
  • Programming experience with a scripting language such as Python, Java, or Ruby.
  • Proficiency with a statistical analysis tool such as R or SAS
  • Ability to tell a story with data
  • Ability and desire to mentor other team members through projects independently, from start to finish, working with internal and external teams to make decisions and maintain momentum
  • Proven track record in meeting aggressive deadlines; strong time and project management skills with the ability to manage detail work and communicate project status effectively to all levels
  • Identifying data requirements for analytical needs
  • Master's or PhD degree in Data Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Operations Research, Computer Science, Econometrics or related field preferred

Pay Range - Start:
$100,030.00
Pay Range - End:
$185,770.00
Northwestern Mutual pays on a geographic-specific salary structure and placement in the salary range for this position will be determined by a number of factors including the skills, education, training, credentials and experience of the candidate; the scope, complexity as well as the cost of labor in the market; and other conditions of employment. At Northwestern Mutual, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. Please note that the salary range listed in the posting is the standard pay structure. Positions in certain locations (such as California) may provide an increase on the standard pay structure based on the location.
