WHY DATA SCIENCE & ANALYTICS?
The Data Science & Analytics organization's mission is to increase our speed, frequency and acumen of making decisions at scale by instilling a data-influenced approach to building products. We cover a wide area of the data spectrum including analytical data engineering, product analytics, experimentation, causal inference, statistical modeling and machine learning. Aligned and partnering with product verticals, we use this extensive tool belt to discover new opportunities and unmet use cases, influence and shape the product roadmap and prioritization, build data products and measure impact on our community of players and developers.
WHY CREATOR DATA SCIENCE?
The Roblox Creator ecosystem is a fascinating and complex system that provides an endless supply of deeply interesting and impactful problems. How to accurately quantify the impact of changes to our creation tools (think Roblox Studio) on the overall health of the platform? How to precisely value experiences and content? What kind of data insights can we provide to help Roblox excel in every genre and type of experience, from platform games to first-person-shooters?
A key mission for our creator group is to cultivate a diverse community of proficient creators, and help them mature into thriving businesses. As a data scientist, you will be a key partner to our product and engineering teams to shape the direction of this team. You’ll partner with data scientists, product managers, engineers and leaders across the company to better understand our creators and the resources that best support their success.
You Will:
- Build innovative and scalable data products and analyses to empower our creator community.
- Design experiments or causal study to quantify impact from creator facing product feature launches.
- Define metrics to evaluate success and build dashboards to track progress.
- Influence how Roblox interacts with its players and its platform creators to accelerate creator velocity.
- Be a strategic thought partner that uses data and insights to drive growth.
- Provide technical mentorship and expertise that multiplies the contributions of data scientists across the org.
You Have:
- Advanced or equivalent degree in Statistics, Computer Science, Physics, Applied Math, Economics, Engineering or other related quantitative fields
- 6+ years of industry experience in Data Science and Analytics
- Experience leading complex cross functional and cross-org projects, promoting best practices and excellence across a team
- Experience developing a vision, roadmap, datasets, analytics platform and tooling in a nascent area
- Experience with exploratory data analysis, data analysis to inform product design decisions, statistical analysis and testing, and machine learning model development
- Experience in causal inference in complex settings
- Knowledge of statistics fundamentals to support experimental design and causal analysis. You understand the value of characterizing data by its distribution. Covariance, Bias, and Conditional Probability are concepts that you rely on every day.
- Expert knowledge related to gaming and/or the supply side of a marketplace.
- Passion about measurement in complex settings of ecosystems and marketplaces. Excited to tackle problems where ultimate outcomes are mediated by a complex web of user actions, creator actions, tooling, algorithms, and economic incentives.
For roles that are based at our headquarters in San Mateo, CA: The starting base pay for this position is as shown below. The actual base pay is dependent upon a variety of job-related factors such as professional background, training, work experience, location, business needs and market demand. Therefore, in some circumstances, the actual salary could fall outside of this expected range. This pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future. All full-time employees are also eligible for equity compensation and for benefits as described on this page.
Roles that are based in an office are onsite Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, with optional presence on Monday and Friday (unless otherwise noted).
