We are looking for an experienced Senior Data Science & AI Engineer to join our dynamic team. In this role, you will contribute to the development of intelligent systems that transform operational data into actionable insights, enabling end users to make trusted, data-driven decisions through AI and advanced analytics.  The role is based at Thales' Avionics industry and manufacturing facility, working within the Avionics Industry Centre of Excellence (CoE) and collaborating with multiple flight avionics sites.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain AI-powered software, data, and automation solutions following cyber security frameworks and compliance to improve manufacturing operations, engineering processes, and business efficiency within an Agile/Scrum environment.Collaborate with project managers, business users, and engineering teams to gather requirements, develop proof-of-concepts (POCs), and deliver scalable production-ready solutions aligned with business objectives.
  • Own the full software development lifecycle, including solution architecture, UI/X design, coding, testing, code reviews, CI/CD, deployment, maintenance, and technical documentation.
  • Design, build, and maintain scalable DataOps and MLOps pipelines, ensuring reliable data integration, processing, model deployment, monitoring, and governance.
  • Develop AI applications using Large Language Models (LLMs), Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), AI agents, and workflow automation to enhance engineering productivity and operational decision-making.
  • Integrate data from enterprise and manufacturing systems, including MES, ERP, IoT devices, sensors, manufacturing databases, and engineering applications, while ensuring data quality, security, and compliance.
  • Design and implement intelligent automation, alerting, and notification systems that streamline workflows, reduce manual effort, and improve operational efficiency.
  • Collaborate closely with IT infrastructure teams and operational stakeholders (such as providing user training and gather user requirement and feedback) to deploy secure, scalable, and reliable AI solutions while continuously monitoring and optimizing solution performance and measurable business impact and efficiency gain.Produce and maintain technical documentation, deployment procedures, user guides, and reusable knowledge assets to support long-term maintenance and knowledge transfer.
  • Contribute to a culture of innovation by continuously exploring emerging AI technologies, sharing knowledge, and driving the adoption of best practices across the team.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Data Science, Information Technology, or a related discipline, with at least 3 years of relevant industry experience in software engineering, AI application development, or manufacturing digitalization.
  • Strong programming skills in Python, with experience in Java, C#, or JavaScript considered an advantage, and hands-on experience building RESTful APIs using frameworks such as FastAPI or Flask.
  • Practical experience developing AI solutions using LLMs, RAG, AI agents, and modern AI frameworks such as LangChain, LangGraph, OpenAI APIs, Mistral, Ollama, or similar technologies. Experience with Dataiku and GCP data engineering services is an advantage.
  • Solid understanding of data engineering, DataOps, MLOps, SQL databases, enterprise system integration, containerization (Docker), Git, and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and systems-thinking skills with the ability to translate complex business requirements into scalable, secure, and maintainable AI solutions.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and stakeholder management skills, with a proactive mindset, strong ownership, and a passion for continuous learning and innovation.
