Summary:

A Senior Data Platform Engineer is an experienced IT professional that develops and applies expert-level proficiency in 3 or more IT disciplines that support Cook Children’s data platform infrastructure: database administration, virtualization/containerization, systems integration, data governance, automation/orchestration, systems administration, information security, storage/backups, networking, and cloud infrastructure. This includes solutions from vendors like Citrix, Microsoft, VMWare, Nutanix, Collibra, SAS, SAP, Qualtrics, Redcap, Anaconda, Rubrik, Fortra, Cisco, AWS, and Google. This role is broadly responsible for architecture, design, evaluation, implementation, support, and performance of Cook’s data platform technologies, including database management systems, data management and analytics tools, and supporting infrastructure. This role collaborates with IS team members from business intelligence, data engineering, research, infrastructure, risk management, network, security, application support, and leadership to ensure that supported systems meet all functional and non-functional requirements. The Senior Data Platform provides 24/7 mission-critical support for Cook on-premise and cloud data infrastructure.

The Senior Data Platform Engineer is responsible for leading the design, development, and maintenance of database management systems and data platforms, data security and compliance, backup and recovery, performance optimization, business continuity and disaster recovery planning, building monitoring solutions and proactively troubleshooting performance and reliability issues, vendor management, data software technology tools administration and maintenance, automation, documentation, capacity planning, researching emerging technologies, technology evaluation and recommendation, private and public cloud infrastructure, and data governance policy. This role provides consulting services to Information Services teams and/or customers regarding technologies and application of specific technology standards and guiding and training Information Services professionals. The Senior Data Platform Engineer must have strong interpersonal and time management skills. They must be able to successfully balance project work with operational and support duties.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree 5 or more years of work experience as a database administrator, database developer, data engineer, programmer, systems analyst, or systems engineer.

OR

  • 9 years equivalent work experience as a database administrator, database developer, data engineer, programmer, systems analyst, or systems engineer.

  • Research background preferred

  • Experience with Citrix, Nutanix, Kubernetes, MATLAB, SQL/Fabric highly preferred.

Licensure, Registration, and/or Certification  

  • One of the following certifications: Microsoft, Collibra, Nutanix or third-party equivalent required within 1 year after hire: Microsoft Azure Database Administrator Associate, Microsoft Azure Data Engineer Associate, Microsoft Fabric Analytics Engineer Associate, Collibra Integration Engineer, Collibra Solution Architect, Nutanix Certified Associate

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Deep knowledge in data platforms and broad interdisciplinary knowledge including servers, operating systems, networking, security, cloud, business intelligence, data governance, software engineering, virtualization, integration, and storage.

  • Experience designing, implementing, and supporting database management systems and data platform technologies.

  • Work history demonstrating increasing levels of responsibility and technical proficiency

  • Knowledge of PowerShell and other scripting languages and automation technologies

  • Familiar with HIPAA and other regulations that impact healthcare organizations.

  • Able to exercise independent judgment and take action.

  • Excellent listening, interpersonal, written and oral communication skills.

  • Logical and efficient, with keen attention to detail.

  • Highly self-motivated and directed. Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks while under pressure.

  • Strong customer service orientation. Experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.
