We are looking for an experienced Data Engineer to join the Applied Science team within Engineering, building and supporting data that drives analytics for both internal teams and Loopio’s customers. This role focuses on empowering teams with valuable data assets to improve decision-making productivity, and acts as a reliable foundation for any research and analysis activities. You'll play a key role in shaping Loopio’s data strategy in a dynamic and evolving technology landscape.

You will partner closely with ML Engineers, Software Developers, Data Scientists, Product Managers, and other business stakeholders to help us take Loopio’s data value to the next level.

This role requires close collaboration with teams across Canada, the UK, and India.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Ownership and Leadership: Act as a glue between stakeholders, engineering teams, and researchers to drive progress on complex, shared initiatives. Be an expert in your area and a go-to person for data-related requests and enquiries.

  • Scalable Data Platforms & ETL Pipelines: Design, build, and optimize data pipelines to support high-scale data ingestion, transformation, and storage. Develop efficient ETL workflows using Databricks, Redshift, and various AWS cloud technologies.

  • Data Engineering for ML & Analytics: Develop and maintain a feature store to support predictive models, AI-driven insights, and data science applications. Enable seamless integration of structured (RDS, MySQL) and unstructured (clickstream, logs) data into the data lake / data warehouse / data mart layers.

  • Automation & Orchestration: Build robust automation tooling for data orchestration, testing, monitoring, and administration. Leverage workflow orchestration tools (Airflow, Databricks Workflows) to streamline data operations.

  • Cloud & Big Data Infrastructure: Architect scalable data solutions leveraging AWS services (S3, Redshift, Lambda, RDS, DMS) and distributed computing frameworks (PySpark, Lambda fleets, etc). Optimize query performance and ensure reliability in high-volume environments.

  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with Data Scientists, ML Engineers, and business stakeholders to create AI-powered insights, drive product improvements, and enable data-driven decision-making.

What You’ll Bring to the Team

  • Data Engineering & Cloud Expertise: 5+ years of experience in data engineering, with hands-on experience in ETL, data architecture, and cloud-based data platforms. Strong proficiency in AWS (S3, RDS, Redshift, Glue, IAM, DynamoDB).

  • Advanced DB engines expertise & Data Processing: Deep understanding of database design, query optimization, and data modelling. Expertise in distributed data processing frameworks (Spark, Databricks, Presto).

  • Software Development & Orchestration: Strong Python and PySpark development skills. Experience with CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins) and data workflow automation (Airflow, Databricks Jobs).

  • Scalable Systems & Performance Tuning: Proven ability to build and optimize large-scale data infrastructure, ensuring low-latency access, efficient storage, and high reliability.

  • Leadership & Collaboration: Strong problem-solving skills, ability to work in fast-paced environments, and experience mentoring engineers or driving technical initiatives.

Where You’ll Work 📍

  • Loopio is a remote-first workplace because we recognize the advantages of working flexibly. We are HQ’d in Canada, with established hub regions around the world where we hire from.

  • Our employees (or Loopers, as we call ourselves!) live and work in 🇨🇦 Canada (British Columbia and Ontario), 🇬🇧 London, and 🇮🇳 India (specifically in Gujarat, Maharashtra, and Bengaluru).

  • The majority of our team is based in ON and BC, which means these employees live and work remotely within a 300km radius of Toronto (within Ontario) and Vancouver (Within BC). 

  • We offer flexible co-working locations available to Loopers in ON and BC. Those based in ON have the option of working out of our convenient co-working space located in the heart of Downtown Toronto and a 12-minute walk from Union Station. BC Loopers have the option to work centrally in Vancouver. It is whatever works best for you!

  • You’ll collaborate with your teams virtually across the UK, India, and North America (we’re just a Zoom call and Slack message away!) with core sync hours and focus time for headsdown work 🙇🏾 during the workday
