Role Description
A Knowledge Graph Data Engineer is a key member of the team, responsible for designing, building, and maintaining scalable graph-based data solutions that enable structured, connected, and queryable enterprise data. This role works closely with ontologists, data engineers, AI engineers, architects, and client teams to translate semantic models into production-ready knowledge graph implementations that support downstream analytics, intelligent applications, and agentic AI use cases.
This individual will play an important role in building the technical foundation for knowledge graph solutions - including graph data ingestion, transformation, population, querying, integration, and performance optimisation - while applying strong engineering judgment to architecture, tooling, and implementation decisions.
What You'll Do:
- Design, build, and maintain scalable knowledge graph and graph-based data solutions.
- Translate ontology and semantic models into production-ready graph data pipelines and implementations.
- Develop pipelines to ingest, transform, and populate data into graph platforms (e.g., Neo4j, Stardog, GraphDB).
- Build and optimize graph queries and traversal logic using technologies such as Cypher.
- Ensure data quality, consistency, and performance across graph systems.
- Integrate knowledge graph solutions with cloud and enterprise data ecosystems (e.g., BigQuery).
- Apply strong architecture and design principles, including technology selection and layered system design.
- Collaborate with ontologists, data engineers, and AI teams to enable downstream intelligent applications.
- Write clean, testable, and production-grade code, ensuring adherence to engineering best practices.
- Contribute to solution design, estimation, and client discussions, and mentor junior team members.
What You'll Bring:
- Bachelor's or higher degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, AI, or related fields.
- Hands-on experience in data engineering, with exposure to knowledge graph or semantic data systems.
- Experience with graph technologies such as Neo4j, Stardog, GraphDB, and concepts like RDF/OWL.
- Strong understanding of data modelling, system design, and architecture decision-making.
- Experience with graph query languages (e.g., Cypher) and graph-based data processing.
- Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, Java, or Node.js.
- Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure) and modern data ecosystems.
- Ability to design and build scalable data pipelines and integrations.
- Strong problem-solving, communication, and stakeholder collaboration skills.
- Ability to operate in roles requiring ownership, design thinking, and technical judgment.
