Role Description
A Senior Data Engineer is a critical member of this team, specializing in designing, building, and maintaining systems and infrastructure that enable efficient processing, collection, storage, and analysis of large volumes of data. This role collaborates closely with business analysts, data scientists, and other stakeholders to ensure clean, accurate, and readily available data for informed decision-making and operational optimization. We are looking for a Data Engineer who has good experience in dbt for this specific role.
What You'll Do:
  • Design and implement enterprise-grade dbt (Core/Cloud) solutions, including project structures, environment strategies, reusable macros, and deployment patterns.
  • Build robust transformation layers using advanced SQL and Jinja, producing analytics-ready datasets with clear modelling conventions and maintainable code.
  • Lead enterprise data modelling initiatives using Kimball dimensional modelling and Data Vault 2.0 patterns, selecting fit-for-purpose approaches and ensuring cross-team consistency.
  • Develop and optimise incremental models and snapshotting strategies to support scalable historical tracking and performant downstream consumption.
  • Define and enforce dbt testing frameworks (generic + custom), data validation/reconciliation patterns, and quality gates to ensure data reliability.
  • Own source freshness management (expectations, monitoring, alerting) to maintain dependable pipelines and predictable SLAs.
  • Drive CI/CD pipeline design for dbt, including automated build/test/deploy workflows, checks, and release governance.
  • Establish and maintain engineering standards: Git branching and governance models, code review practices, and quality controls (e.g., SQL style guides, linting such as SQLFluff).
  • Optimise performance across cloud data warehouses (e.g., Amazon Redshift) through query tuning, model optimisation, and materialisation strategy.
  • Strengthen metadata, lineage, and documentation practices (dbt docs and catalogue standards) to improve transparency, maintainability, and stakeholder trust.
  • Integrate dbt with orchestration frameworks (e.g., Airflow) and ensure pipelines are observable, resilient, and support production operations.
  • Collaborate with clients and internal stakeholders to translate requirements into scalable data products; contribute to technical requirement gathering, analysis, and solution architecture design.

What You'll Bring:
  • A relevant Bachelor's or higher-education degree in Computer Science, Data Science, or a related field.
  • Strong hands-on experience with dbt Core and/or dbt Cloud, building production-grade transformation layers using SQL and modern engineering practices.
  • Advanced SQL skills, including optimisation, complex transformations, and performance troubleshooting.
  • Proven experience with analytics engineering practices: building clean, well-documented datasets aligned to business definitions and reporting use-cases.
  • Strong understanding of dimensional modelling (Kimball) and practical familiarity with Data Vault 2.0 approaches for enterprise modelling.
  • Experience designing scalable ELT/ETL pipelines and data warehouse architectures, with a focus on reliability, observability, and maintainability.
  • Proficiency with Git version control, code reviews, and quality standards (e.g., SQL style guides, SQLFluff).
  • Experience designing/using CI/CD pipelines for data transformation workflows and awareness of monitoring practices.
  • Experience with orchestration tools such as Airflow and working in agile delivery environments.
  • Strong communication skills and confidence engaging with client stakeholders and cross-functional teams.
