Your Role
As Senior Counsel you will play a crucial role in supporting Firefly’s growth by partnering with external-facing teams (payer, provider, strategic partnerships) and providing strategic internal legal guidance. Reporting to our General Counsel, you will handle complex transactions, ensure compliance, and contribute to the development and execution of Firefly's strategy. In this role, you will work closely with cross-functional leaders from areas such as Clinical and Clinical Operations, Marketing, Sales, Tech, and People Operations to drive Firefly’s overall success.
You will:
- Partner with internal stakeholders to handle complex transactions and strategic partnerships
- Provide legal guidance on compliance, risk management, and data strategy
- Advise the Product and Clinical teams on the legal implications of new programs
- Manage outside counsel, ensuring the right expertise is in place and engage external legal experts to support business growth
- Review, negotiate, and finalize various agreements, including payer contracts, partnerships, NDAs, and business associate agreements
- Develop a deep understanding of the business model and lead complex transactions with payers and providers
- Establish yourself as a leader, identifying risks and opportunities
- Implement compliance programs, and establish legal processes that enable efficient deal flow and strategic advice delivery
You’d be a good fit if:
- You have a JD and are admitted to practice law
- You’ve been practicing for at least 6 years, with time in both law firm and in-house settings
- You know how to navigate risk and regulation and assess and manage risk to guide the business to hit its goals and advance its mission
- You understand highly complex regulatory environments and compliance in the healthcare industry and what it takes for a startup to be successful (HIPAA, fraud & abuse laws, governance, IP, transactions, security, employment, etc)
- You are a great listener, build rapport and strong working relationships with senior leaders, colleagues, investors, and customers to drive business outcomes and to provide clear, succinct, creative and principled legal advice
- You’re personally motivated by our mission and by what we are building and are empathetic and desire to understand problems and help people solve them, especially this one
- You are biased to action, process driven, and get things done accounting for unknowns and recovering from setbacks well
- You work independently, with minimal supervision, and feel comfortable taking ownership and responsibility for completing projects
It’d be nice if:
- You’ve spent the bulk of your legal career supporting or leading value and risk-based contracting, and payer transactions in the healthcare space and have experienced the pace and growth of a startup
- You are comfortable with ambiguity and have a proven track record of success within scaling businesses, fast-paced environments, and startups
Our office is in Watertown, Massachusetts, but we’ve developed a robust remote working structure to give us more geographical flexibility while hiring for many positions. This role can be done largely remotely, there are several times a year when staff come together onsite for planning and team building.
