Red Cat Holdings is seeking a full-time Senior Cost Accountant. Red Cat is a rapidly growing public defense technology company providing all-domain drones and robotic solutions for defense and national security. Its portfolio includes small, unmanned aircraft systems, uncrewed surface vessels, wireless power transfer technology, and autonomous swarming software supporting operations across air, land, sea, and space.
This role will develop, maintain, and support inventory and cost accounting processes and systems, including product costing, inventory valuation, standard costs, manufacturing variances, reserves, and related financial reporting.
This role will be located at the corporate HQ in Salt Lake City.
Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesInventory Accounting & Close
- Own and maintain accounting for inventory, cost of goods sold, inventory reserves, variances, and related balance sheet accounts, including preparation and review of journal entries and reconciliations
- Review and reconcile the inventory subledger to the general ledger, including raw materials, WIP, and finished goods
- Monitor and account for inventory adjustments, including cycle counts, physical counts, scrap, obsolescence, and excess and slow-moving inventory reserves
- Support month-end and quarter-end close activities related to inventory and cost accounting, ensuring a timely and accurate close
Standard Costing & Financial Analysis
- Serve as the primary owner of the standard costing environment, including:
- Maintaining and validating standard costs for materials, labor, and overhead
- Analyzing and explaining purchase price, usage, labor, and manufacturing variances
- Reviewing standard cost accuracy and recommending updates as needed
- Perform ad hoc cost analyses and support management requests related to margins, pricing, and inventory trends
Audit, SEC Reporting & Technical Accounting
- Prepare inventory and COGS support for external auditors, including cost build-ups, variance explanations, inventory rollforwards, and audit PBC schedules
- Assist with SEC reporting support for Form 10-Q and Form 10-K disclosures related to inventory, COGS, and cost accounting
- Draft and maintain accounting memoranda and process documentation related to inventory valuation, standard costing, and manufacturing accounting under U.S. GAAP
Internal Controls & Process Improvement
- Support the development and enhancement of inventory and cost accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls
- Ensure compliance with SOX and ICFR requirements, including control design, documentation, testing, and remediation
Systems & Cross-Functional Partnership
- Partner closely with Operations, Supply Chain, Manufacturing, and IT to ensure accurate product costing and inventory transactions
- Assist with system implementations and enhancements, including SAP Business One, particularly for inventory, BOM, and costing configurations
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance required
- 2–4 years of experience in inventory accounting, cost accounting, or manufacturing accounting
- Experience in a manufacturing or inventory-intensive environment strongly preferred
- Hands-on experience operating within an established standard-costing environment
- Strong understanding of U.S. GAAP, particularly inventory valuation and cost accounting
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel (variance analysis, pivot tables, lookups)
- Experience with ERP systems, preferably SAP
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to clearly explain cost drivers and variances
- High attention to detail with strong reconciliation and documentation skills
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a deadline-driven environment
- Effective communicator able to partner with cross-functional teams
- Willingness to work occasional overtime during close, audit, or special projects
- Demonstrated professionalism and discretion when handling sensitive financial information
- Adaptable and effective in a fast-paced, evolving environment
- CMA or CPA preferred
- Must be able to walk, stand, and navigate large indoor and outdoor facilities for extended periods of time.
- Ability to lift, carry, and move materials and equipment weighing up to 25 lbs on a regular basis.
- Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) may be required in designated areas or when performing specific tasks, in accordance with safety protocols and company policy.
- May be required to climb ladders, stoop, kneel, or crouch during inspections, maintenance walk-throughs, or emergency response situations.
- Regular exposure to facility operations including noise, dust, temperature fluctuations, and industrial equipment.
- Occasional off-hours or weekend work required for emergency facility responses or projects as needed
- Requires frequent use of a computer and other standard office equipment for documentation, communication, and coordination tasks.
